How To Start Overclocking???

Ya all, I was always curious about overclocking. Now, thinking about doing it by myself. So will the geeks give me some basic tips??? Well, I need to know about basic hardwares or softwares. And precautions too coz I dont want to damage anything

Re: How To Start Overclocking???

Some cpu are not stable when overclocked. Few years ago I overclocked my pentium4 2.8 mhz to 3.4 mhz. anything greater than that and I experianced display issues and frequent blue screen or crashes.

The gain is marginal and often not worth it, of course depending on the CPU. What CPU do you have?

^+1.

Your biggest enemy when overclocking is heat. The generic OEM heatsink/fan will not cut it. Consider the additional cost of a better cooling system. Zalman makes some great cooling components for PCs.

If you’re going all out and building a gaming/graphic intense rig, consider watercooling. Watercooling is an expensive venture though.

Overclocking comes with a whole host of other component upgrades for durability and stability.

Stronger PSU
Better Cooling
A case that provides plenty of air flow

Re: How To Start Overclocking???

CPU manuafacturer Intel and AMD are not stupid if the chip could clock faster they would realease it like that. There have been some chips released at slow speeds on purpose (for sales/marketing purposes) like the Celeron cpu that can be overclocked without any issues, matching the expensive versions.

Currently thier is a max speed ceiling of around 3.5ghz per cpu. The only way to increase cpu power is to intergrate 4 or 6 or 8 of these cpu’s into one chip ie quad core etc.

well, here’s my Configuration…
core i7 2.66GhZ
and My cooler is zalman reseratorSo, i think i wont face excessive heat issues as my ZALMAN is a good cooler !!
