I have this sony cybershot camera and the size of pics is sometimes gig enough to upload when I use 4 M feature. Is their any way I can reduce the size while capturing photos at 4 M?

I normally use paper scissors. you can try ACDSee or adobe.

Try BIMP Lite. Its very small easy to use program. That is what I use and is very good, on top of that its free.

I use Macromedia Fireworks. The best image editting program.

just use Irfanview:
Free and simple in use, and not bulky at all.

Photoshop!
Open a image file with photoshop then click Save As. Select the format you want. Then it will give you option to set quality and size of the image. Simple!

Photoshop etc are all huge programs, and in many cases cost a lot. And should only be used if you are serious about 'touching up' your photographs and do other fun stuff.
IrfanView is free and simple and is perfect for resizing images either one-by-one or in batches.

Regardless of what program you use, just convert your images to JPGs. The JPEG files are compressed. Even the least compression rate will reduce your size more than enough without losing noticeable quality (if any)

I used to be a big fan of Acdsee for years, and recently switched to this one. Its very light and you can even scan using this software and ofcourse its free.

I third ! 
Irfan view is the best to play around with the pictures and that too in large number with only a few clicks. The batch option has saved me thousands of hours in last 9 years.

I am sure, if once you starts using this programme, then you dont want to try anything else.
(at least not for simple tasks like resize/crop)
The time you need to start photopshop is enough to do the job with Irfanview.

not that I know of :p. I said that cuz the way u were promoting BIMP lite, seemed like you are either in marketing or sells field.

What about others who are trying their best for IrfanView. 
I used it and it was free so I recomended it. not a big deal.

they are not promoting it, they are suggesting it :p, but you should be proud of urself that you have skills and you can be part of marketing field.
