How to record off of a DVR/Tivo?

Hi,
I have DVR from Dish Network and want to permanently save some shows to a DVD. How do I do this? What is the best external DVD Recorder out there?

I have Panasonic E55. Works ok if you use the recommended brand of DVDs.
