how to pray regularly?

How to create a habit of praying 5 times a day?

Re: how to pray regularly?

exactly the same way as you and i come to the GS :D tell yourself that you will come to GS ONLY after you have done each prayer of the day...lol :) my point is if you and i CAN come to as an unimportant place as the GS regularly then why CAN'T we pray regularly which is THE most important obligation in a Muslim's life?

Re: how to pray regularly?

I have thought about it again and again hareem ... and come to a conclusion that nothing but will power is needed...

Alot of times, I am sitting here aimlessly prayer time comes and my mind starts telling me i am lazy and should skip it .. I tell myself back that its shaitan in action and that I must get up immediately ... and I do ... after the prayer shaitan goes away and I am back to my normal self , not feeling lazy !

So its all about that constant fight with the shaitan and your will power to show it the door !

Re: how to pray regularly?

Getting up to actually do it is the hardest thing. Once you are up you feel re-vitalised enough to make wudu and pray. I totally agree though with Mr KKF that if we can make time for the internet then we should make more effort to offer our prayers. We're all guilty of getting lazy unfortunately.

Re: how to pray regularly?

**thank you for agreeing :D...someone in a lonnng time finally agreed with me lol :)

to be honest, if we look deeper into the reasons why we routinely MISS our salaat, we'll realized that it's laziness for a small part [25%] but for most part [75%] it's the weakness of our iimaan. i would give you one example...if our boss at work says we'll have a meeting 5 times a day everyday to discuss your performance, i'm sure we'll attend ALL those meetings without fail [even, make EXTRA sure to attend by NOT going anywhere a couple of hours before the meetings] although we may be very tired, we may feel super duper lazy, we may NOT like to sit/stand alert in front of him.

my point is: we do NOT use this excuse when it comes to worldly affairs but use it extensively when it comes to matters with Allah. it's because of the weakness of our iimaan...we know that the boss will kick us out and that is our unshakable iimaan!!!!!**

Re: how to pray regularly?

[29:45] ...And keep up prayer; surely prayer keeps (one) away from indecency and evil. And the remembrance of Allah is the greatest.

There is a hadith from Prophet (saww) where he (saww) said (paraphrasing) "what do you think of a person beside whose house is a river where he goes and takes bath 5 times a day? Surely such a person will be pure from all the physical impurities. Similarly, salat offers a chance for a person purify himself/herself inside out."

Last verse of Suratul Ankaboot reads;

[29:69] And (as for) those who strive hard for Us, We will most certainly guide them in Our ways; and Allah is most surely with the doers of good.

Imam Ali has said "When I wish for the Lord to talk to me then I read Quran. And when I wish to communicate to my Lord then I go the prayer mat to offer salat/namaz".

Namaz is at the center of our struggle and journey towards God. If that is what you strive for and if your Lord is your priority then you should not have a lot of difficulty in achieving regularity in your prayers.

Re: how to pray regularly?

Keep your wuzoo on all the times. As soon as i go to bathroom, along with washing hands, I renew my wuzoo. I notice that kahili in namaz does not happen because of actual prayers but because we have to do the wuzoo/

Re: how to pray regularly?

salaams all,

I would like to share the following beautiful video about wuzu.

Re: how to pray regularly?

That's a very good idea, people clean themselves and do istinja anyway when they do their business. Might as well do your wadu completely so you don't have an excuse for it.

-Also if it's really a struggle start of with incorporating 1 or 2 prayers and then adding them slowly. Esha is the easiest sometimes because you're pretty much done with the day and can't make any excuses for it taking time away from anything else you have to do. You'll find that it'll become difficult to go to sleep once you start doing it few nights in a row, like a chore has been left incompleted.

-Set some sort of reminder for each one of your prayers. An alarm that might go off or have someone in your family who prays regularly ask you casually if you performed your prayers. You might slack off the first time, find an excuse for the second one but by the third you might just feel guilty and get up and pray. So basically, try to keep track of the ones you are missing. It'll make you think.

-Think of your kids, younger sibs etc... sooner or later you'll reach a position when your younger siblings or kids need to be taught about their obligations as Muslims and you'll have to teach them a lot of things. Think of how difficult it would be and how conflicated you might feel when you teach them about the obligations they have in islam and don't even follow them yourself.

Also you can't really do anything without the help of Allah swt. Whenever you make dua, ask Him to help you in fulfilling your duties towards Him.

Re: how to pray regularly?

I've started keeping wuzoo on all times and it helps so much! At first I would be lazy just because of the wuzoo part - a very careless thought I know. But now I try to keep my wuzoo all day and it certainly has helped Alhumdolillah.

Re: how to pray regularly?

i try to make sure that im wudu at all time.

another think i think about it is that Allah SWT has taken the time out and given me so much blessings. The very least I can do is take out 10 min out of what I'm doing and take the time to thank, praise and pray to Him in return.

i also try to revolve my schedule (eating, socializing, watchign tv, work, etc) around prayer times so I would not miss the time to pray.

like i mentioned before, one should incorporate their life around islam and not the other way around.

Re: how to pray regularly?

Niks and I do exactly that. We dont commit to people to go to their home at 6 PM or 7 PM. We say after maghrib or after Asr (if they are muslims) or give them time when we know that we would be done with our maghrib.

Re: how to pray regularly?

^ yup. that's what we do too.

Re: how to pray regularly?

for me wudhu was the difficult part too, so i try to keep the wudhu all the time also, i make sure i do the prayer at the correct time. My dad always gets up for the prayer when azan time is over and when i see him get up i get up too. This way, i dont get lazy nd leave it to the last minute :D
