just wanted to know how make my hubby pray. the only excuse he has is that his clothes are not clean. he has some problems about Cleanliness. he showers twice a day, never lets anyone touch his stuff and thinks most things are dirty, such as door knob, my phone etc
i can not convince him to pray. even though his clothes are clean, he prefers to have shower before namaz. its in his mind and i am not able to change
Re: how to make hubby pray
get him a shalwar kameez just for namaz.. He doesnt do anything in those clothes but pray. his problem does look psycological, so i cant say much abt how can you change the way he see things. However i must say, its very common, alot of people i know are like this ... and sometimes they do sound rite.
Re: how to make hubby pray
Well, as far as I know, if one faces the problem of breaking of wudhu very frequently between each prayer, then one is allowed to perform only one wudhu for each prayer and continue praying even if the wudhu is broken. This wudhu would only be valid for that particular namaz and he would have to do a new wudhu (abolution) for the next namaz.
This is only valid till the time he is suffering from this physical or psychological problem.
p.s. I heard it from someone, don't have any authentic source to back my words. I might be wrong, but it sounded logical to me. Allah knows BEST.
Re: how to make hubby pray
I think it sounds like he might be suffering from OCD. I would make lots of duas for him and encourage him to change his opinion about what is dirty/clean......I know a lot of people from my own social circle suffering from OCD. The sufferer of OCD makes life difficult for everyone else around them by making demands that things be done their way! A fine example is of a lady I know who does not allow visitors into the house as they would bring germs/bacteria to her house.

Make him do the course Getting Right with Allah by Imam Zaid Shakir.
In it he will learn that Shaitan ushers us to do evil and if he cannot achieve his ends there then he will find ways to make us doubt our prayers, wudu, intentions and so on so we work ourselves into a rut fulfilling the purpose which is delay or missing the prayer.
We should learn to prioritise our time and learn to recognise when Shaitan is making us think things to prevent our worship.
thanks guys
i tiried everything on him. even his clothes are clean, he still wants to have shower.
our room is full of tissue boxes and uses tissues to touch/hold things such as my phone, door knob etc
should i ask him to goto a doctor. is it really mental problem. i just want him to pray, with Ramandan coming i dont know how i will cope with him.
Yes you can take him to your family physician first. Clearly he has OCD.

Re: how to make hubby pray
I think he needs to admit he has a problem before you can do anything to help him. Its very hard with these things, you cannot help someone if they don't want to be helped. Secondly, it might be better not to mention the word mental problem. People get frightened when they hear that word and tend to react negatively in terms of getting treatment as they don't want to admit there is a problem. Hope this helps and don't worry too much Inshallah Allah will make it easy for you.

I think you need to rule out bahanebaaz symdrome or BS before she considers OCD. The clue will be in seeing if he only wants a shower when it is time to pray. If at other times he does not seem to mind staying without shower then he can’t have OCD.

i think he does have a problem as he gets annoyed himself but cometimes. the skin of his hands have turned whitesh as he washes too much with out applying any lotions. and in winter some time i can see blood coming out of cracks.

Please pay attention to what she is saying.
"our room is full of tissue boxes and uses tissues to touch/hold things such as my phone, door knob etc"
It is a very clear sign of OCD .
As for trying to get out of namaz using any kind of excue I am not judge of it , Allah knows the best.
