Re: how to make a perfect round roti?

Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
I'm not sure how to describe this but you have to get your roti to move on your chakla or whatever you roll it out on.
Basically, it gets round when its not stuck to the surface, has enough khushki on it and you are able to roll it out in a circle.
I can't describe it well at all...lol
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
You start with a nice round ball and you roll with light and even pressure.

no doubt u have described it very well but what should i do in order to move the roti on chakla itself . ;) wish can learn this stuff i think it requires practice wish me luck ladies
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
yes it requres practice ... but as reha said add more khushki aata and keep your hands light .. means dont press the belan harder you know what i mean !!
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
Ok here's a fabulous tip for a gol roti :
After you have made the ball .. flatten it slightly then hold it between your thumb and your index finger , like you hold a frisbie ... and start applying pressure on the corners while rotating it ... this step is what will ensure you get a gol roti ..
then when you are ready to use the rolling pin , ensure that you apply pressure on the corners .. also dont bailan it too thin or wide ... when its slightly rolled out , practice to do the rest with the pat of your hands ..you know how the roti is done ... that will give you gol roti ...
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
whenever I am making roti, I just cut it after putting dinner plate on top. This give you perfect round. not a cm here, not a cm there but a perfect round :)
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
If your "pera" is round then your roti will become round too.
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
Seams of your para should be in the middle and para it self should be round. When you are rolling it move it in half circles during the process. It will be perfectly round an even thickness on all sides.
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
the 'pera' is key to making a round roti and practice.. the more rotiyan you make the better and rounder they will get.
Agree with niksik... Use a gentle hand and as u bail it lightly, its gonna turn by itself. The harder u press on it, the more it will chipak to the bottom.
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
yes, the 'pera' seams need to be tucked in proper, then with even pressure flatten it out. used more 'khushki' atta. practise makes perfect. .. prior to all this, if the atta is mixed with colder water, the atta dough will be hard n the roti's will turn out better, as you have more control when rolling it out. if the atta is mixed with warm/hot water, the dough will be 'dheela' and the rotis will turn out weird.
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
I agree with everyone, it is sort of hard to describe in words how to do it. But even if the 'pera' is perfectly round, it will end up looking like the map of Africa if the pressure is not even while rolling. So moving it around with EVEN pressure is the key!
Re: how to make a perfect round roti?
does it work fine?

BINGO
This is it. In the beginning...my nani would make my pera for me and then press out the edges into a round shape exactly how CB describes. Slowly I got the hang of it...it takes practice but this step helps.
