How to make a comprehensive & Sincere Dua

Dua is the most loved part of an “Ibadah” in front of Allah (s.w.t) yet at times I tend to make the mistake of making it very short and random.

How can we make a dua which is so sincere and pure as if it is coming from the heart of a child, with such a sweet feeling that we don’t like anyone to interrupt us ?

p.s. When I say comprehensive it should be comprehensive in a real way. A friend of mine used to make a too short dua with following words:

“O’ Allah (s.w.t)! please give us everything that is good for us and keep us away from everything that is bad for us”

Please share your words of wisdom for guidance of less learned people like me in this matter.

Re: How to make a comprehensive & Sincere Dua

Assalamualaykum, hopefully this will be of any help insh'Allah.

Etiquettes of invocations

  • Sincere intention.
  • To begin with praise and glorification of Allah SWT and to send blessings on the Prophet SAW and to end the du'a in the same manner.
  • To invoke with the certainty that it will be accepted.
  • Do not ask from anyone other than Allah.
  • Invoke for oneself first and then for others.
  • Seek forgiveness from Allah SWT while acknowledging ones sins.
  • To make du'a with full concentration as Allah does not accept a du'a of a heedless heart.

I guess once one realizes all these things, a du'a is made more sincere. As for comprehensive, Allah SWT knows what is in our hearts. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't make du'a, because Allah SWT said in the Qur'an (one of my most favourite verses in the Qur'an, subhan'Allah):

"And your Lord said: "Invoke Me, * (and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation)."
[Qur'an 40:60]

May Allah SWT guide us all and give us the tawfeeq to make du'as in the best manner. :)*

JazakAllah khair for a beautiful reply. I would insha'Allah take a print of it and put it in my room, as this can be made a permanent part of one's prayers technique only if one consistently practices it and frequently reminds oneself about it.

May Allah (s.w.t) reward you for this act of kindness and bless you and your family with all the blessings of this life and hereafter.
