Re: how to make a cheesy pasta bake?

Nadz… Make nice cheese white sauce, add cooked pasta, turn it into an oven safe dish, sprinkle cheese and bread crumb on top. bake till cheese has melted or make a nice red meaty sace, add cooked pasta, turn in oven safe dish, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake till cheese has melted.

I can post recipes for sauces later.

Sauces please

Nadz, are you looking for the red tomato sauce version of the bake?

Here’s a quick one.

Takes a jar of ready made pasta sauce, adds a bit of dried herbs (I like oregano), add a bit of chili sauce. I add it to some precooked pasta, and add 100g grated cheddar cheese (leave a bit to sprinkle on top). If I want a crispy top I sprinkle on some breadcrumbs and the remaining cheese and bake.

I’ve tried the bake with mozerella cheese and that gives a nice stringy version.

You can even hide vegetables into the sauce such as grated carrots or diced bell peppers.

It’s a nice dish to serve in individual dishes too. Well if you want the extra washing up.

Of course you could make the sauce from scratch but I’m guessing you’d prefer the time saving version as a busy mummy =)

Creamy Baked Pasta

Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans (15 oz. each) tomato sauce
salt and pepper
4 cups macaroni or other small pasta
1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
2 cups sour cream or plain yogurt
1/2 cup chopped green onion
2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
Directions:
In a large skillet, combine beef and garlic. Cook and stir over medium heat until browned. Drain fat.
Add tomato sauce, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
Cook pasta and drain. Spread in the bottom of a 4 quart casserole. Top with the meat sauce.
In a medium bowl mix the cream cheese and sour cream or yogurt. Blend until smooth. Stir in green onions. Layer over the meat sauce. Top all with the Cheddar cheese.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35 to 40 minutes, until casserole is heated through. Makes 8 servings.

I’ve tried this recipe with a few substitutions, it’s pretty good.
The picture is my own version…
