How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

My doctor’s advice is to loose 30 pounds as fast as I can. I am diabetic so because of the medications I take to control my blood sugar level I am constantly hungry so I eat frequently if I do not eat frequently I get sooooo starved within 6 to 8 hours that I end up over eating. My doctor sent me to a dietitian but that was not much of a help as the dietitians in USA do not know anything about desi foods and food habits of desies.
Again I do not have much of a taste for western style foods. I am a mirch, masala, chutney , achar, nihari , kabab , paratha, biryani kind of a guy.
For dinner I have reduced my Desi food intake to 1/3 or my normal .
During lunch I have started to eat well balanced salads, my problem is that I do not like any western style salad dressing so I put chaat masala and lemon on my salad. So far it is going good. But I might get bored with this routine pretty soon.

Any more suggestions ?

P.S: Please ignore my thread about my philosophy of parhaiz in general forum while replying to this post.

And yes I do exercise and I also do yard work. I am trying to grow tulips . I will post pictures of my tulips shortly once they all get full bloomed.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

OK, Mirch bhai, I'm borderline diabetic with several people who are diabetic in my family. I was diabetic during one of my pregnancies and during that time I attended an extensive course in nutrition. Also, my parents are physicians back home, and my dad is an experrt in diet and nutrition. So, here are a few recommendations based on my resouces:

Your goal is to cut down on carbs, such as roti, rice, potatoes. Limit intake of fruit juices, bananas and mangoes.

In the morning, take egg, soy breakfast patties, as slice of whole wheat toast.

Snack on a small apple, yoghurt. Totally avoid desi nimko! You also get these low carb rice cakes with interesting flavors.

For lunch and dinner, if you take rice, make sure the starch is drained. Eat more salan, less of the rice and roti. Fill up with salad.

You also need to eat enough vegetables to provide the vitamins and minerals you need. Add a sabzi to lunch. Stir fry veggies and a cup of rice is good. If you don't have a cholesterol issue, add chicken, meat to stiry fry.

You can still eat the biryanis, make sure you east lesser quantity. No more than one roti for dinner. More salan.

Also, eat more beans and legumes, like cholay, lobia, raajma, black beans...cooked in chatpatta way. Lots of protein and enough carbs in them too, so they can be eaten alone or with some roti.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

have you tried the bernstein program? its been developed to help diabetic patients get their diet and their sugar under control. my aunt is diabetic and its worked miracles for her… her sugar went from 13 to 2 when she was on it, plus she also lost weight. its only lately that non-diabetic people have started using it as a weight-loss regimen, but really thats stupid because its way too harsh if you’re not diabetic.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

I've heard about that too SGC. Good reviews.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

You do not know the background of me calling her aapa. If you are interested I can explain otherwise let it slide.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

lol

Mirch My father was diabetic too, he controlled his sugar with working out.
Plus I get hungry like in 2 hrs after eating. Stiop worrying about that.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

nikki how do you know you're borderline diabetic? are the symptoms similar to those of diabetes? and whats makes you diabetic then? and do you go to Type I or Type II from borderline diabetes?

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

Bloodwork from my recent annual physical indicated that my sugar levels are close to sugar levels of someone in diabetic range. We are talking about Type II here. Docs says I should work hard to control now because given the intensity of my family history plus having gestational diabetes once puts me on their radar.

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

so you had no suspicion besides the gestational diabetes that you might be borderline?

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

No, I don't have any symptoms as such.
I've always been tested because of my family history. This time the numbers were up!

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

ohhhh!

great i should get a blood test too then :smack:

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

When you fill out your health history questionnaire there should be a spot for diseases that run in your family. Your doc should automatically schedule you for screenings if you mention diabetes and heart disease.

Maybe they haven’t done that yet because you’re still young!

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

my family doc’s the same as my dad’s and he knows what’s up with my dad. except i have to ask the doc to get me a blood test. :vivo: maybe you’re right…he might think that i don’t need it since i’m possibly not in that bracket right now =/

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

Correct. I have gestational diabetes, that too very severe, plus grandma, phupoos, chachas dying of diabetes, written all over my report card…plus I am definitely much older than you little missie of the 80s, so I have to be tested!

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

gotcha!

:cb: :@:

Re: How to loose 30 Lbs in short time ?

I may be diverging from the topic, but Niksik I was borderline gestational diabetes during my pregnancy as well. Did your doctor advise you to be careful in your eating habits, to follow a diabetic diet? After my post delivery check-up, my doc was like eat whatever you want. i am still careful, but just wondering?
