Re: How to kick start labor???

:D oh ure gonna love these last few days...

SLEEP.. honest to god... SLEEP... sleep like u have never before cuz u can forget bout it once the baby comes.. i wish i had listened and not rolled my eyes whenever ppl would say that to me.. hehe

i was 10 days over due.. see.. the thing with dates .. especially first baby... its an educated guess.. but guess just teh same.. ure body decides when its done cooking the baby... and when its read for labour and delivery.. thats why it can go 2 weeks up from the expected date of delivery..

walk and try to stay as active as possible... ghee in milk, castor oil, jumping jacks and shoving a bottle of vaseline up ure uterus is not gonna make things happen any faster.. i know cuz i tried (cept the last 2 things hehe)... ure body just doesnt work that way.

but red rasberry tea has been said to help with contractions but not to start labour... also.. ahem.. sex.

even after ure water breaks doesnt guarantee u going into labour anytime soon ( i took 22 hours to go into labour from the time my water broke :D )...

so just try to stay as abe active as possible.. try to rest and sleep too... and let ure body lead the way to a healthy and happy baby

all the best for u and the lil one!!

Re: How to kick start labor???

Nipple stimulation can help as can having relations with hubby. Both activities increase production of the hormone oxytocin. Heres a link about it, the site has other tips and suggestions too.

Nipple Stimulation for Labor

Best of luck! Keep us posted and congrats to you!

Re: How to kick start labor???

For me, an internal check by the midwife kickstarted labor. Before that, i was 3.5 cms dilated with no contractions (Alhamd, hope the next baby is like that too, IA, lol). My midwife recommended against castor oil. SHe said it gives you runs to the bathroom and then you could be dealing with contractions AND painful stomach cramps at the same time. Trust me, both of them together would not be fun.

Walk, walk, walk and let nature run its course. And try, ahem, what khawa suggested, paying attention to your husband.

Re: How to kick start labor???

Castor oil is strongly disouraged in US because it can be very confusing - is this the need to go to the bathroom or is it a strong labor pain that could result in delivery. The docs will provide a bedpan and not allow use of the bathroom to prevent a toilet delivery. The birth process actually uses the same muscles that you use when you use the toilet. I'd avoid the castor oil.

Re: How to kick start labor???

Hi there...theres nothing much else u can do babe other than wait..wait..and wait again i was 2 weeks over with my 1st..they had to induce me and 11 days over with my 2year old daughter i tried eveythin (expect sex there was no way i was gonna try tht sooo uncomfortable) caster oil drinkin the herbal tea my MIL made me sumthin called "HALIA" little seeds dont know wat its called in english u boil it with milk supoosed to b good for u and help u with labour didnt work i drank sooo much of th stuff at my final antenatal midwife did internal still nothin..went again every 2 days to hav internal done must hav had it bout 10 times still no laobour in the end had to b induced again..which eventually did put me in labour BUT it was soooo bloody painful bc my body was forced into labour sooo pain was twice as bad...just rest and rest...and let ur body prepare for labour itself do not force ur body to go into labour trust me its REALLY AND I MEAN REALLY PAINFUL!!!!!!!!!! GUD LUCK

Re: How to kick start labor???

trust me i know ppl who swear by havin sex!! my cousin had sex one day before her delivery for both her boys!!!! thats 2 times. then i know a friend who was asked to have sex also. i think there is some connection between the two. even i have thot of havin sex if i go past my due date.. but lets see.. :D

:nono: to castor oil… stay away from it. My friend drank it on her MIL’s advice, she was in labor for 12 hours, followed by a c-section… got a big scolding from the doctor too… dangerous stuff.

Yeah, like everyone said walk walk walk and indulge in some quality time with hubby :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks everyone for ur replies so far! yes i want to walk but the damn weather is so horrrible here...even today its raining...about having sex, well i am livin with my mum n dad at the moment, gonna deliver here and go to my own house inshala. but he comes n stays here sumtimes, and it is really uncomfortable even to hug him in bed let alone hav sex!!! so i cant agree with that!
i will wait..but i have been having quite stabing pains in my vagina and then followed on by baby moving quite alot, so i wake up in the night and think to myself is this a contraction??shall i call labor ward?? then i ssleep!!! so how does a contraction feel like thats my question... i have herd u WILL know wen u have a contraction is that true? by the way i have had the period like pain and heaviness feeling in my back aswell..!!

Re: How to kick start labor???

My contractions started out as period like cramps and back pain as well, so yes, you are having contractions perhaps :D Good luck, its so exciting, isnt it?

Re: How to kick start labor???

Trust me, you will know when the real contractions start… the pain is nothing like I had experienced before, and its at regular intervals… you might be having the braxton hicks right now (I had those for a whole month :bummer:) … those are irregular and lighter in intensity. Go to a mall or somewhere indoor and walk there… thats what brought on my labor… I was out and about a lot last week before my EDD, on my due dtae I walked for 2-3 hours and as soon as I got home, within 30 mins. we had to rush to the hospital :stuck_out_tongue:
