How to help someone with the extreme fear of nazar?

My mum is a good lady, but she fears people/nazar to an absolute extreme level to the point where she fears people/nazar over Allah.

I think its something she cannot control, she is educated to a high level, she works she is a good mother but I think this paranoia comes from a very difficult childhood.

I dont know if she needs a doctors helps or what!

But can anyone here give me some advice? maybe some hadiths I can show her or something?

Re: How to help someone with the extreme fear of nazar?

good question.....
I'm surprised that you haven't had any replies.

perhaps she faced too many incidents of nazar and perhaps her elders were keen to point this out and now it has stuck in her heart and she's fearful.

have you tried discussing relevant hadees with her?

Peace Inspiron,

By saying 'People/nazar', u mean 'evil eye'?

Re: How to help someone with the extreme fear of nazar?

Surah falaq and Nas is the best Quranic ayats to recite. Also reciting ayat l kursi blow it on water n then drink it. Try it for 40 days ,with the intention of overc omming the feeling .
Inshallah I hope it will help.

It seems you want her to be balanced, but your mother is perfectly fine living with this disproportionate fear ... If that is the case nothing will work until she is made to realise that her fear is disproportionate and needs to change and this will not happen until she is receptive to the advice.

The way I recommend is to systematically over a period of time support your mother with phrases and anecdotes that you rattle off to her in amidst normal conversation to make your ploy undetectable about how Powerful Allah (SWT) is and how we can trust in Him, and how various persons of the past did this ... Sneek in the wisdoms of the 4 quls, but also one needs to realise and cope with destiny and take it in our stride ... If a test befalls us it could be a test from Allah (SWT) also ... so how we react to it is more important sometimes - and you also need to give her slack that if she so chooses to protect herself from the evil eye - she should be allowed to do this ... afterall that too is a recommendation as per Qur'an ... Let her know that her du'a for protection and her intent to be humble and not show off is a good way to avoid the evil eye or jealous person. And you also need to understand the wisdom in this in order to approach her on this topic .... What I am trying to say is - If on one hand we go around showing off and then claim Allah will protect us from the evil eye then this is Islam misunderstood - We must have a balance of both caution as Islam has instructed to be cautious of it and at the same time confident in the support of Allah (SWT) so long as we make a habit of seeking it ... Such as whenever we leave items of value we supplicate with Ayat al-Kursi ...

It will take time but eventually it should work inshaAllah

Re: How to help someone with the extreme fear of nazar?

Peace Inspiron,

According to the sayings of Prophet Muhammad :saw2: the influence of an evil eys is a ‘fact’. In addition to psyah’s comments, plz see below hadiths for reference.

**Influence of an evil eye?
**
‘The Book on Salutations and Greetings (Kitab As-Salam)’ of Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 5427.

Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah’s Messenger :saw2: as saying: The influence of an evil eye is a fact; if anything would precede the destiny it would be the influence of an evil eye, and when you are asked to take bath (as a cure) from the influence of an evil eye, you should take bath.

What to do/read?

Book ‘Prophets’ of Sahih Bukhari Hadith No. 590

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet :saw2: used to seek Refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain and say: “Your forefather (i.e. Abraham) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac by reciting the following: ‘O Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.’”
