I’ll make it short. I have a girlfriend who is interested in converting to Islam. I told her to talk to imams and the like, and to read up on net and from books. She is refusing and wants me to teach her. I am not a good practising muslim myself. I dont know what to do. She wants me to meet her and talk to her and I dont have time due to my schedule. Help! Thanks.
I think you can tackle the concept of God in Islam first and then message of Islam which is peace and submission.

Prove it with your character and personality. Prayer five times. Recite Quran. Don’t tell lie. **Then teach her*. You actions and your teachings must be well-matched.
Bro. laeeqkhan your thread “Sayyid” is closed by Admin because of a awkward post made by ammarr otherwise discussion was going fine. If you want to continue. You can open another thread and discuss the matter living under Moratorium . OR you can PM me at [email protected].

She knows I dont do all that at this time, but she still asks me regularly to teach her. confused
Tell her what Islam means to you, and tell her about the five pillars, sit down with her and read a translation of the Quran and talk it through with her. Just surah Fatihah is so full of meaning, you can learn a lot about Islam from that.

Sahar I cant really meet up with her due to my schedule and where she lives. She knows the basics, the five pillars, and just a little more than that. I read Qur'an in English, I dont know Arabic, so me reading it with her, I dont see how that will help her since she can read it herself.
I am fearing that the thing she wants to learn from me is all the hadith stuff I have read, because this seems to fascinate her. But she can just pick up any book for that. I honestly wouldnt know where to start teaching her from. I feel somewhat guilty that I dont have time to meet up with her, but part of that is fear that I wont really teach her anything good. sigh
From what i know the best people to learn from in this kind of situation is if you have access to a convert, they will have gone through similar experience and tell them what to expect.
If you don`t have such access then you just try your best and most importantly that they understand clearly what its about.

The first message of islam was 'There is only one God'.
The Prophet's (peace be upon him) message for the first 13 yrs(i think), was only abot 'One God'...
so you can start from there... then move on accordingly..
maybe tell her to change her company..
give her quran recital cd's if you have em.. just arabic..
IMO teach her according to her level of understanding...
