One of my new Mentor’s is a very senior executive from a fortune 500 company, and for me it is quite intimidating that he has offered to mentor. One of the things is I know about his experience but not to the extent of what others in the field may know.
Some questions I have are:
How to manage the relationship since I know he is pretty busy and I want to make the most efficient use of the time he spends to answer the questions
How do you set up the ground rules for the mentoring relationship, is it the Mentors responsibility or the Protege’s?
What form of communication is better, face to face or email etc?
yeah a local aalim will be just the perfect person to advise her on how to create a cluster sample for multivariate testing to determine the effectiveness of her campaigns across the media mix.
Re: =How to get the most from your Mentoring Relationship
What’s religion got to do, got to do with it?
First things first, you need to establish a communication plan and aim to maintain regular contact. Do you use some form of email client like Lotus Notes? Set up monthly (or whatever suits both of you) 1-2-1 sessions so they’re already pencilled into your schedules and take it from there, adjusting/rearranging/adding meetings as and when needed. Email should be used, but the relationship should be enhanced further with F2F meetings also.
As for goals and objectives , i think that should be discussed from the get go so you both know where you stand and what the others expectations are… at the end of the day, both of you are gaining something from this partnership, so you both need to discuss what you are aiming to get out of this…
Cluster samples are dangerous things. You are always wondering if you have introduced sampling bias in creating it. They are not universally accredited as being above suspicion. And what about outliers? Do you just throw them away? What kind of muslim are you if you deliberately hide your outliers to make your cluster sample homogeneous? Han? Han? Sheesh, yous guys!
