How to get that look??!!!

Hey ladies,

So I am talking about that “look” makeup artists achieve when it comes to weddings, party makeup, etc. Does anyone know the steps more or less? Like do they apply 2 layers of foundation, extra primer, etc?

I hope I don’t come across as confusing/weird but you know that “look” like the airbrushed, sort of flawless look. And I don’t mean with the airbrush makeup. They use regular makeup but the outcome comes out looking so flawless.

Thanks!

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Primer before foundation
Use a foundation sponge and "dabble" it instead of sweeping it across the face.
Contouring and great blending of everything

Re: How to get that look??!!!

desigirl.. you mean that look that makes the Elite girls look Elite?? i also wonder what do they do that makes them look Elite. i’m still struggling to not be paindu :bummer:

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Yh right.
Basically ur skin should be fne for fine makeup.
Sec my makeup was done from madeeha on my wedding day. Their products were nt costly as i hv noticed. Buttgeir finish of base was great. After 10 months i went again to same salon, same girls do my party mekup. But thAt time finish of base nt gud as it ws last time. I complain them.they said ur skin isnt gud and oily.

Before wedding i hv got treament from dermalogist that make skn gud enough that i was lookng younger than my age.
Application of products is matter , sould knw the techniques and tricks. But skin matter more .

Re: How to get that look??!!!

If you are talking about the pictures - that's basically all photoshopped!!

As goes for applying the makeup, yes you can do some prep work before hand so your skin is glowing and the makeup you apply will go hand in hand!!!

I like to do a mask/cleansing routine couple days before attending an event - (you can get a facial too if you prefer, but do it few days before just in case there is a reaction and you end up breaking out)

This is how I do my own makeup - however I DO use an air brush system (TEMPU) but I am listing the products for foundation to achieve a similar look

Step 1: Skincare - eye cream/moisturizer according to your skin type

Step 2: Corrector - for under the eyes to hide dark circles....followed by the concealer, don't put the corrector on the top lid since it will crease the eye shadow

Step 3: Concealer - makes the skin look brighter/younger, it should also be 1 shade lighter than your foundations shade in yellowy shade, finish it with setting powder underneath the eye and on the top lid to set the corrector/concealer. At this stage I mix my primer with the concealer to minimize the pores and especially hide the redness around the nose area

Step 4: Foundation: Get the right shade to make the skin look even, if your skin is oily use the oil free formula, if dry use the creamier one, for an evening event choose a full coverage foundations such as Kryolan tv paint stick (but make sure you get matched with the right shade first, If you are desi medium skin tone, get the FS36 and FS45, use the 36 more and 45 less for contouring) Tarte, Bobbi brown, Kat Von D
Apply it with a brush or a sponge (I break my sponge in half since the raised rigid parts on the sponge applying the product with it on the skin makes it more evened out and it pushes the product into the skin hence the look is totally flawless, trust me it works) blend. blend. blend with a buffing brush

Step5: Setting powder with a powder puff - pat in on the skin gently, because you don't want to smear your foundation, and don't forget your neck for the previous step or this one.

Step 6: Bronzer/blush - with a fan brush use the bronzer on the side of your cheeks/temples/jaw line with light strokes.
Apply the blush on the apple of your cheeks and blend upward towards your hairline.

Step 7: Lips - Use a good scrub to exfoliate the lips to make them soft, or make your own with sugar+honey and leave it on for 5 mins
Use a lip liner to outline the lips first, make sure the colour is close to the lipstick shade, not too dark or not too light, apply the lipstick out of the tube or with a lip brush for precision, If I have a lot of time I use the brush.

Step 8: Eyebrows - fill in the brows with a brush, using a medium/dark brown eye shadow (I use #15 NARS brush for this step - so far I LOVE this brush, my eyebrows look so natural and not made up)

Step 9: Eye Shadow/eyeliner/Mascara - for this step once you get the hang on applying your makeup you can do this FIRST doing anything else, I like to do my eyes first since I don't like to have any fall out on my already foundation applied face, I find it a hassle to wipe and concealing again

Eye Shadow - I like to do a smokey look but play around with colours according to my outfit, but mostly I prefer chocolate brown shades

For Eyeliner: I like to use a liquid or gel for evening, since it gives such a defined look, also if you like line your waterline and smudge it with a small eye brush to give a nice dramatic look

For Mascara go with the blackest shade since it really pops the eye makeup

Step 10: Take a look at your face, see if something is less or more, At this stage lastly I like to apply highlighter underneath my brows and blend with the eye shadow, you can apply a very tiny bit on the bridge of your nose too, spray your entire face with makeup setting spray so the makeup doesn't budge all night, (check MAC, Urban Decay for the sprays) and voila you are done :)

Re: How to get that look??!!!

I heard its better to use concealer over foundation....thoughts?

Re: How to get that look??!!!

I think Royal Gala pretty much summed it up! It would help if you posted a picture also. When you say "that" look I think of full on makeup with full coverage foundation. That flawless look is achieved when:

-you have on full coverage foundation, you've concealed every imperfection
-your skin is primarily matte ( I don't know if its's just me, but I think dewy foundation looks good on people only the first couple of hours, after that it just looks sweaty)
-contouring and highlighting has been done to give a more complete look
-eyebrows are filled in, eye makeup and lips are done neatly

And as mentioned by some people here, having clear skin helps a lot. Makeup just looks better on smooth skin.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

That's what I always do! I don't understand the concept of using concealer first. You should use concealer to cover imperfections that the foundation hasn't already covered. If I apply concealer BEFORE foundation, it's usually wiped away with my foundation brush anyway. Apply it after your foundation so you can see exactly where you need it and how MUCH of it you need.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

You know what makes a big difference for me to differentiate between just regular heavy makeup (i can never achieve the proffesional look myself) and wedding wear makeup is fake eyelashes! they seriously make all the difference in my pictures.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

but shouldn't you be dabbing the foundation on in the areas where there is concealer? that way it doesn't wipe away.....

I've always heard that you conceal, contour and then put foundation to even everything out....

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Wouldn't you contour AFTER foundation/concealer because you apply bronzer, highlighter over everything?

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Do you girls use bronzer to contour or a foundation/concealer?

Re: How to get that look??!!!

You can do it any way that works well for you, there is no rule. Concealer after foundation just makes a lot more sense to me. I put on foundation, then concealer, then contour, then powder the skin.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Yes, that's what I do, it's quicker then using creams to contour then blending everything in with a foundation IMO. I use a darker foundation shade to contour and set that with a darker foundation powder also.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

I can only tell you what works for me, In my eyes there is no right or wrong way, If the end result is gorgeous it doesn't matter what goes on first :)

For bronzer or contouring with foundation/concealer I do both from time to time, really depends on what products I am using, I wear various brands of foundations from day to day, so it depends really; like for instance If I wear makeupforever/benefit liquid foundations I will use a bronzer, and If I decide to go with the Bobbi brown stick foundation, I use a exact+light+dark shade to contour (one to match my shade exactly, another 1 shade lighter, another shade darker)

And yes post a picture of what are you exactly talking about, so you can be guided accordingly :)

Re: How to get that look??!!!

What matters most in your makeup routine: skincare, technique of application and then products. When I take care of my skin, my make up looks amazing. When I slack off, it looks nice but I know it could be better.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

hmmm......you guys have me thinking now.....I'll have to try the contour after the foundation.

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Forgot to mention this in my post earlier just follow this technique and play around with it, best way to tell is to take a picture of yourself, that’s how I learned what works or what didn’t

Royal gala, any videos of your techniques. I do better after seeing tutorials. Thanks in.advance

Re: How to get that look??!!!

Which application technique gives the best foundation coverage? Stippling? Sponge?
