How to gain weight

Hi,
i am getting married in Dec and my problem is tht i don’t know to gain weight so tht my wedding dress will look atleast ok on me. i am 167 cms and i am only 35 kgs…:frowning: i am trying to increase my food intake but its making me sick… and i even tried to take vitamins and other pills but no effect… any suggestions besides increasing food intake will be welcome… thks

Hi,

I would suggest you see your doctor first, he/she can suggest a weight/mass diet and write one out for you.

Be it that your not too tall, but weighing just 5.5 stone is seriously bordering on Anorexia nervosa, have you considered putting the wedding on hold till maybe mid next year, if that isn't possible. I have a few tips of what you can do to atleat increase your weight and mass and overall look healthy.

Drink plenty of water (6/7 glasses of water a day), get plenty of sleep (8hrs or so) as its when we sleep that we grow. Eat 6 meals a day, as this maybe difficult for you make 2 or if not 3 of these meals a protein shake, protein is the building blocks for growth and mass.

Apart from what Orpheus said.............Eat alot of junk food, eg Chocolate, chips, fast takeaways - drink soft drink and dont more for longer then 50M's at once :)............Hey it works, Its a personalhandoff secret. 10Kgs in approx 3 months

do not try to gain wieght as once u hve put it on u will wnt to loose weight.

yeh try n get to healhty weight do u really weigh 35? or is dt an exaggeration?

eat lots of fruit , eat larger portions and more meals in the day. dont eat to much junk as this will just make u fat and spotty.

Eat whatever you prefer AND get protein shakes ready made kind through your doctor. Its faster and also more of a save for you. They can be quite expensive. Add all sort of nuts in your diet.

A desi trick is to eat mithaii....what you heart desires...crave for, have it often.

35 kgs??

I dont think thats right, if you were 35 kgs you'd be in bed with no energy to go bout your daily life.

My 10 years old is 38 kg

Beside regular roti, rice, butter, cheese, Chocolates, banana and bana shakes, lussi and munch on chips etc.

But a more proper insight of gaining weight for female can be found here. A healthy weight gain is essential, building a little muscles, instead of just fat which leads to problems later in the life.

In your case running for 30 minutes will boost your appetite, eat good food in double the quantity of what you are currently taking.

she might be right cuz am around 35-37 too whereas am 23 yrs old am perfetly healthy Mashallah say unlike many ppl i dont get sick but am trying to gain wait…just cuz ppl eat my head off telling me how thin iam…

btw the date and milk shakes work though i hate the combo and i havent tried it yet :bummer:

Three well-balanced meals are good to start with. In-between you should eat healthy snacks like lots of fruit, especially bananas with milk. Milkshakes are good too, and occasional hot chocolate - chocolate itself is a high-caloried snack but you should only consume in limits because of the sugar content. And then obviously there's the junk food: pizza, chips, burgers, cheese and cheese products, lots of salad dressings - mayyonaise,etc, cakes, biscuits. Make sure you exercise with this kind of diet as you dont want the fat to sit on your tummy alone...

I'm 22 and at 37kg...same problem - hardly any appetite, dont feel hungry or thirsty - am very fussy eater...if i do eat more than usual,i get sick & stomach cramps...i take iron tablets from dr but not making any difference....all this leads to extreme exhaustion in everyday life!

and errmmm.....what protein drinks are they? is it something like yakult?

Thanks all for the tips...Even if i am 35kgs, i am by god's grace healthy but its irritating when the person standing in front of u is thinking tht u r sick and i have low self -confidence bcoz of this problem. I am not pakistani and it will be the first time i will be meeting my fiancee's realtives in pakistan for the wedding, n i really want to gain some weight bcoz i can imagine how all the eyes will be fixed on the bride and i am very sure tht there will be comments on my weight.... hahahaha...

Wow! that sounds incredibly serious. I haven't heard of any adult weigh this less. You can't be (by God's grace) healthy if you have a BMI of 12 something. You either are not as tall as 167 cm or not as much underweight as 35 Kgs, it's just physically not possible without a fatal illness. Like Adrasteia said, you would have no energy if you really were that much underweight. AND may I add, any adult with a BMI of 12 would have to be hospitalized right away regardless (if you are at a place where hospitals exist). I suggest you check your scale again.

I will give you an example. Nicole Richie is hardly 5'2" (158cm) and weighs about 85lbs (38.5Kgs). I am sure you have seen her in news and she is scary skinny. It's sad that she is famous for being anorexic. Nicole Richie has a BMI of 15.5 (that's not nearly what you are if you really are that height and weight!).

Hi Miss_ Noland, i am really 35 kgs for a height of 167cms. Well, i have seen doctor also but i am perfectly alright. about my eating habit, i have always been like this since childhood.. i am not very fond of eating... well, i assume most people thinking about this BMI for a person like me will be scared. My size is the first thing ppl notice about me and they feel i am very fragile. But tht's the opposite of me. I love jungle trekking and other outings. Trust me, i climb mountain, snorkling and do every kind of activities without really getting tired... like i said before, i am healthy but tht first impression that ppl have on me , tht's the thing which is bothering me.. i hate when ppl think i am sick. tht's y i want to put on some weight. at first, i didn't bother about ppl's views coz i used to console myself. but now its getting hard to bear those views... i am getting depressed about it and as the wedding date is approaching, i am thinking about the comments that me n my family will hear.... :(

I can seriously relate to this issue as my firstborn son has battled with being underweight since the day he was born. It has been a very serious issue and a very tough thing to deal with! I have many tips for you as far as high-calorie foods and calorie boosters. Also, there are a number of medicines that increase appetite. The one I am most familiar with is called Periactin (generic name ciproheptadine). It is an antihistamine but works very well as an appetite enhancer. It makes my very food-averse son actually hungry. Another appetite enhancer is called Megase, I am not very familiar with this one since its not used for little ones. You can ask your doc about these.

As far as increasing calories, use Extra Virgin olive oil in everything you can. Its a "healthy" fat so its even good for you. If you can get Carnation Instant Breakfast, add it to 8oz whole milk and then add ice cream, bananas, etc. Theres a similar powder drink called Resurgex which is VERY high in calories but its hard to find and its expensive. Another additive is called Benecalorie, its a small cup of white liquid that you can add to almost anything and adds 330 calories. If you want more tips feel free to pm me!

Make sure you don't go out when its windy.

Girl you have more serious problem to deal with then a dress fitting you right.

Change you life style- go little rough, gym and stuff/out dors/stairs/biking
-- doing work out will make you hungry and you will eat more.

Working out will also help you developing muscle mass witch will add into you appearance and dress will look good.
