Re: How To Explain "Duniya" In Islamic Terms
Dunya has been systematically more and more confused through the years to mean "the world" itself ... In reality it is meant in a negative way ... As the aspects of life that distract us from the remembrance of Allah (SWT) ... Dunya and nufs are inherently linked. Love of the Dunya goes hand in hand with the fear or disdain of death.
For this reason it carries some aspect of outwardness, but this idea would cause confusion to say that outwardness is not important ... It is possible to be inward in life and yet still mindless of Allah (SWT) ... Also, Islam never tells us to deny outwardness its importance ... For example it tells us to remain clean and fresh, to trade and dwell in communities.
Dunya is the illusion of the world in what it implicitly aims to be able to deliver to us ... It is like a hologram ... That we chase it and it runs from us only to make us chase it with more vehemence and fervour.
Dunya is also the blindfold that is put between us and the Causer of all things ... That we see things being causes of other things preventing us from concluding the Reality that Allah (SWT) is the Sustainer and Maintainer.

Peace psyah
for you post found very informative. Is it true when all humans will be sent at their places either in heaven or hell, an ugly black animal will be brought and scarified with a announcement that this is the “duniya (death)”, so from now on there will be no death.
Plz correct me if I’m wrong. ![]()
How To Explain "Duniya" In Islamic Terms
Dunya, is a word
Its root; دنى: يدنو

Re: How To Explain "Duniya" In Islamic Terms
Word duniya means something that is already within reach of something in some respect.
When word duniya is used in opposition to aakhirat, its meanings depend on context.
If we talk about a range or spectrum then word duniya means the starting point and word aakhirat means the other end as reference point or where things that started complete or end.
When we talk about things in sense of sophistication then word duniya means simple and word aakhirat means complex or sophisticated.
When we talk about value of things then word duniya means something of lowest value and aakhirat means something of highest value ie minimum and maximum.
It also means short or near sightedness and long or far sightedness eg short term goal or long term goal.

I'll take the Blue Pill, Morpheus! :O
Lol. I joke.
Your description is pretty much the summary of our entire being from conception, to the first and only death into the eternal abode.
As for what Brother LK asked, I take a more simple view. It's not as philosophical for me. Dunya is this temporary life of 60/80/100 years that we live, once this test is over and we pass into the next eternal life, this life-span will seem like a part of a day that just seemed to drag on because we were living the micro-details.
Dunya is this, here, and now. Simple as that.
Allah knows best.
Re: How To Explain "Duniya" In Islamic Terms
Peace All,
On many occasions, we are so comfortable living luxurios life or wishing to live in this "duniya", that we simply don't want to change our way of life, and also we couldn't care less less about what's happening in this "Duniya". Is this a kind of 'love for Duniya'?
Re: How To Explain "Duniya" In Islamic Terms
Any thing that changes the focus of our attention away from ALLAH is duniya. If your car /home/wife /children do not take your attention away from ALLAH
then this is not duniya.
Re: How To Explain "Duniya" In Islamic Terms
read somewhere that " duniya momin kay liye qead khana (jail) hai aur kafir kay liye janat hai"
