Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
Best thing to wear is the abya, you can wear a lawn type shalwar kameez underneeth, i wore a t shirt and shalwar underneath my abaya.
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH

Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
^ abaya!!
trousers and Tees underneath.
Dont forget to take the cap to wear underneath scarf so that no hairs come out on forehead.
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
I wore a skirt and lawn kurtas with a looong round scarf, that came up to my knees ( i think its called Khimr?). So as a whole it looked like i was wearing a black abaya with a huge scarf on top. It was nice and airy so it worked well in the heat.
Oh, and i wore long cotton socks so that there was no accidental show of the legs :p

Omg thats great news i wore an abaya when i went for ummrah but i also saw many people wearing their own clothes that were flowy and not tight as for a headscarf try a colour like black or white and something not with a lot of design/ attention grabbing as your their to worship. But enjoy your time their!
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
its hot. like burning hot and yeah abaya isa goood choice to avoid unnecessary attention. lawn is nice or cotton
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH

Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
EEEK! I'll be going for Umrah next week and I'm already nervous. I was thinking of wearing my Nike trainers because I hear you have to walk a lot. >.<
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
I wore flip flops the whole time. You have to take footwear off when you are in the main part of the haraam anyway, so wear something easy to take off. And have a bag to put them in and keep with at all times you because people take them.
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
But shouldn't you take something so you can walk for a long time?
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
For Umrah, most of your walking will be within the haraam where you won’t be wearing shoes or if you need to, it will be flipflops.
The other walking may be between your hotel and the haraam, if it is far away so then yes maybe you need more sturdy footwear. But I would advise something easy to take on and off.
Perhaps walking sandals? i.e. Women’s Sandals | Stylish Flip Flops for Ladies | Teva® UK
Walking Sandals | Women’s Trekking Sandals | GO Outdoors
Anyway, there will still be saudi women wearing skin tight jeans and 5" heels under their abayas in 40C heat ![]()
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
I would say wear a lawn shalwar kameez with loose long sleeves and the big white chadar that can be buttoned down the chin. It is comfy and light. Personally, I wouldn't wear abaya.
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
Just wore Lawn shalwar kameez and some days t-shirt and just threw my abaya over it...honestly its really comfy and u think ur gona be hot in it but u wont be inshAllah
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
I went to umrah in may...I wore either tshirt or just crop top with leggings under my abya it was in excess of 50degrees there at that time...shoes wise unless your hotel is far just wear flip flops
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
Honestly, just get an abaya. And wear whatever you find is comfy underneath. (Try to wear light clothing as it'll be pretty hot.) It's the easiest way to make sure what you're wearing is 'modest' and that you're fully covered at all times during the umrah. The thing with wearing shalwar kameez and a chador is I've often seen chadors slipping off heads and sleeves riding up to expose the forearms. The problem with wearing a shirt and long skirt is that sometimes the shirts might ride up during sujood.
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
I wore white linen pants and linen kurta for performing the Umrah, seriously the most comfortable outfit, with an abaya on top. On other days, I would just wear a light cotton PJ and a T with an abaya. For shoes, I just wore Old Navy flip flops; however, inside Haram, I wore socks with rubber grips, since I got blisters last time I went due to a lot of walking.
Re: how to dress up for going UMMRAH
I agree with all the comments. I wore wide legged trousers (not linen) and a linen kurtas. I never took an abaya but the family we were staying with in jeddah practically forced one on me, saying it wasn't proper just to have a chador. I'm really glad they did because it's so much easier to make sure you are covered properly and can wear light, loose clothing inside. It was something like 45C but bearable.
If you do spend a lot of time barefoot, I would recommend taking and high % urea cream (such as flexitol if you are in USA) or castor oil to massage your feet with whenever you are back at the hotel.
