It’s actually a little surprising that they still have the option of choosing death by firing squad. Under the US Constitution, the government is prevented from imposing cruel and unusual punishment and there are certain methods of capital punishment that were abolished so as to not contravene the US Constitution. If there is enough of a hue and cry, the courts could deem death by firing squad to be cruel and unusual and abolish it as well.

You die quicker from a firing squad than you do from lethal injection, since a bullet to the heart kills immediately. What is cruel or unusual about instant death?
