How to deal with anorexics?

I am afraid that a close friend of mine is getting borderline anorexia or atleast she has the symptoms. She has lost 15 lbs recently and looks like a skeleton on her 5’3ish/5’4ish 103 lb frame. How do i talk to her about it??I have tried talking and telling her it isnt healthy but she isnt paying attention. Actually thinks it would be cool to weigh an even 100 lbs. What to do guppies, I am real worried!! :frowning:

get serious help for her before its too late. bring in the third person to explain it to her.

suroor, everyone in her family is always forcing her to eat but she only eats when she wants to. Its not like she is always starving herself but i dont like her unhealthy attitude towards this.

how many kg's is that ira?

do u know the reason why shes not eating? i mean is it guy problems? or idolising a celebrity..? i know it sounds silly.. but sometimes these are the reasons... are their people in her immediate family who have a thinner frame and shes trying to compete?

An important part in the evaluation of anorexia nervosa is missing of atleast 3 menstrual periods.
But if she really does have anorexia, she might need to be hospitalized as these people can starve themselves.
But the main treatment is behavior modification, family therapy and if nothing works then anti-depressants.
If you think that she has anorexia, make sure she sees a doctor.
By the way other signs of anorexia are excessive preoccupation with weight (like excercise etc) self image of being overweight, hair growth on face etc. Some people also eat in binge and then vomit, but that is not in all cases.

I am not sure but for a 5' 3" to be 103 lb is not really underweight. I have to check on that. But losing 15 lb is a concern.
