First of all I don’t even know why Khomeini is being compared to the Sahaba in this thread. Not every Shia likes Khomeini and the IR. Idolizing the IR was a thing of the past generation, and there is a rise in Shia youth who do not agree with his vision.

Regarding the juloos, many of you would be speaking differently had the Sunni majority stuck onto this custom. Sunnis took out their own juloos with taaziye in all parts of India before Partition, and many continue to do so. It was only in Pakistan where Sunnis stopped, hence the loss of connection with this centuries old practice. I thought Shias came to Pakistan under the belief that it would be an open ground for them to practice their faith freely as Muslims. On a personal level, I would not mind if the juloos was banned, but this is a practice that has been with us for over 1,000 years and passes down with each generation. When terrorists blow themselves up in a juloos, they aren’t attempting to say the juloos should be banned, they are making a statement on the legitimacy of shedding Shia blood. Instead of banning the juloos, you should be attacking the real issue at hand, because these terrorists can just as easily attack and torch Imambargahs and homes.

There are “Sunnis” who still do the “juloos” but they are 2nd part of Sunnis i.e Brelvis… Deobandis never had any juloos to my knowledge. Yes the real issue must be addressed and people need to learn to coexist, but before getting to larger population learning that we need to stop all kinds of religious activities in outdoors unless it is far away from city/population.
