Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
i did try reading the quran in english. have it on my Kindle. lost interest. : ANDthe words are just words to me.
I have been there kinda...especially when life deals you a bad hand.
I can't say I am a good Muslim. I don't even know what that would mean.
I do think that even if you were to read namaz...the act itself would mean nothing to you. I think you should start attending a tafseer or islamic studies class. You are not going to be required to turn into a mullani overnight. Its not about other peoples' perceptions either...always remember that. What anyone else says or thinks should be the last thing on your mind. Its about your future...your kids future. And there is only one chance to make it...no re-do's, no trial and error, nothing. Might as well try as hard as you can.
Religion is about finding that connection with Allah swt...that part of you that needs him and feels him. You have to find it...it doesn't just come to you. It never has. And never will. Hidayat is literally guidance. Guidance that's given when you're on a certain path. If you don't make the effort of even looking...how is He to guide you? When you're going somewhere...you have to actually make it to the road before your GPS starts to work. GPS will find your location and tell you where to go next.
My suggestion is to change your company, try to spend more time in religious environment, listening to bayans including online lectures. And keep on asking form ALLAH about more hidayat, this thinking about trying to be religious is from ALLAH and inshallah HE will see you through.

Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
esp, when your as religious as an atheist....sorry bit extreme, but my husband wants us to create a religious mahol, especially if we be living the SATANIC WEST, ( hes paranoid), and wants this kind of environment esp from me. as im the mother of our 2 girls.now problem is.,IM NOT RELIGIOUS.yes i believe in islam, i am muslim. etc etc. but namaz...- dont do it, ramadan-hardly did it- etc etc , and i have no fear...i pray that Allah gives the hadayat soon, to atleast pray namaz, but so far, im zilch. i wish i was more religious. and ive spoken to hubby and told him im trying but namaz to me is like a chore for me. once i complete it, im relieved of it...yet i do believe in it. hes supprtive, but he cant make me do it. i need to. so any advice....i dnt want my girls growing up without religion, i dnt want to be a too-liberalised mum.
Even if namaz feels like a chore for you, do it anyway. That way you're still absolved of its obligation if nothing else. To say that it feels like a chore or that it doesn't give the feeling and contentment we think it should is not going to be a valid excuse when we're questioned for its neglect.
Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
As mentioned in a hadith, the love of ALLAH (Subhana Wa'ta'aala), Deen & Rasoolullah *(Sallallaahu Aleyhi Wassallam) *is by nature present in the system of every human. It is because of various factors that this love increases or decreases according to the various omissions & commissions in ones life. Some are voluntary which are in our control, while others can be circumstantial, beyond our control.
As it has been time & again mentioned in hadiths that, when a person takes one step towards ALLAH, HE takes two towards him. When a person walks towards ALLAH, HE runs towards him.
And if you are doing something (be it a mechanized ritual or a habit), be assured that its only because of the 'Taufeeq' that HE has granted you.
Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
it might help to think of Allah as the One that loves you the most.....even more than your parents could.
if you turn to Him in your hour of need as well as in times of prosperity and happiness then you may find that you begin establishing a relationship with Him.
just start with doing only one namaz per day.......not all of them......you will find your heart drawn to do more and more.
Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
Nadz: You can buy a book of hadith "40 hadith compiled by Imam Nawawi". I think it may good start. Many scholars claimed that those 40 hadith cover most significant and important aspects of Islam. I attended the lecture series at local mosque and it was good experience.
Make a habbit after Isha/Magrib prayer and read one hadith. Let me know if it works. But please make effort to catch prayers on time, that is Fard.
Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
half cooked religous islamic doesnt. Try to apply full islamic code on your life, then you will know.
Islam is the most logical and practical religions there is...applying it fully in your life would be the best for you. I don't understand what you're trying to say about Islam...that it's flawed or what? You defo need to educate yourself on the application of Islam in modern times. You're mixing culture and Islam, just like so many other Pakistanis. SMH.
Re: how to create a religious environment in your home.
Dont worry,
if we walk 1 step toward Allah, He (The most merciful) comes 10 Steps near towards us
Making namaz Routine is Verrrrrry difficult for elderly people ( above 20 Yrs or so).
Anyway keep trying ,
What exactly makes you think it as chore,?
For kids , making islamic mahol is just following two steps
1- Make very good friendship with your kids, watch cartoons with them , talk to them a lot
2- You follow islamic Rules (namaz, speaking truth etc). Dont ask your kids, just you do it. Kids will follow
All the best
May Allah help you
and May Allah help us all
