I know only how to cook a steak on a grill but this guy does not have a grill at his disposal and he asked me how to do it apart from that so I have no idea. Can it be cooked in an oven etc or some recipe that I can give him?

depends on steak thickness and type. this will work for ny strip and ribeyes of a decent thickness..
so..first of all dont marinade the hell out of steaks..
some kosher salt and pepper would do just fine, maybe worcestershire sauce..
but yeah if ppl are into rubs and marinades, thats fine
u can use a grill pan although others work fine..heat it..
have some light coating of oil on the steak..
preheat oven to 450 degrees
put it on the pan, let it sit for 2 mins each side
put the pan in the oven, do steaks 5-7 minutes a side..
thats it..
if the pan is not oven safe then heat the oven with a oven safe sheet or baking tray or whatever inside and move the steaks to it.
one last step in this case whioch works great is to take steaks out and put on the hot pan again for 30 secs or so each side to get some good char going.
enjoy..
and I have found that it works best that if there is a particular marinade you like to do a light glaze of that when you put he steaks in the oven.

This is an AWEsome steak recipe, it calls for very expensive steaks (filet mignon) but comes out just as delicious with sirloin…
