How to connect wireless internet to another router

Verizon Jetpack internet is source. I want to connect it to another router, that will further extend internet to other devices.

Any thoughts and suggestions..

Basically an extender? The result is not always great when you amplify the signal.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

How to do it?

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

You need to buy a wifi repeater / extender

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

What TLK said and some routers can act as a wifi repeater/extender too. So you don't necessarily have to buy a wifi repeater, you can configure your router to work as a repeater. Our house as two routers, one is the main one and the other is configured to augment the signal and amplify it.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Wait...are you using Verizon Jetpack for home internet? Don't think those hotspots are built to connect another AP to them. You will need a wifi range extender. Not sure if the jetpack has an ethernet plug. If it does, you can plug in an extender.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Also, if you go with a router, make sure it's for LTE. Not all routers support different networks.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

I’m still trying to understand wut “other devices” you want it to be extended to? How’s local router stopping you?

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

No, it does not has an Ethernet plug.

:hmmm:

I don’t have local router… I will buy one.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Buy a router. Those LTE routers are really expensive. Good luck!

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

I have Verizon Jetpack MiFi.
Will other router support LTE ?

How many routers do I need?

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Go to nearest Best Buy, get some information. Google cheaper options? All you need is a router that can support LTE/4G signal. Other routers may or may not work. You can try one and see if it works. What's the exact model of your MiFi? I can find a compatible and cheaper router for you.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

I will check and post here tonight.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Get Asus RT-AC68U(fairly cheap now, used to be very expensive back in 2013) or similar wifi router, you may have to install custom firmware by Merlin. Then you can hook up the jetpack to the USB port on the router and extend internet to internal LAN over wifi. This works as I’ve tested verizon jetpack with same router and comcast (failover between two internet providers, etc.)

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Seems like this works with Mifi. Checked on the verizon mifi community page:
Amazon.com: Peplink Pepwave Surf On-The-Go Wi-Fi Router (SUS-AGN1): Computers & Accessories

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

MHS800L

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

@mahool - Forgot about you. So I did some googling and found out Verizon sells compatible range extender for MHS800L. You can try that and see if that’s all you need. There are many 3G/4G routers available.

Antenna $19
Magnetic Mount Antenna for LTE - Verizon Wireless

Router:
There are many options and I haven’t used any of them so won’t be recommending any. Peplink and Cradlepoint 4G routers have good ratings online. Try one of those. They do have cheaper options.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

@mahool... are you using this as backup in case the main internet connection goes down? If this is your primary setup, I am curious to know how good is its performance. Also, make sure you are on a generous enough plan, coz once you set up another router, and start using the same line with multiple devices, your data usage will increase rather dramatically.

Re: How to connect wireless internet to another router

Unlimited… For time being I am using it as my main internet.
