How to calculate zakat??

Can someone give me a straightforward formula on how to calculate zakat? I’ve been reading about it online but am very very confused about all this nisab and stuff.

For example, how much zakat would be paid on $6000??? Is there a certain percentage you use to find out or what?

Appreciate any and all help

2.5% on total net reserves that have been maintain for 1 complete lunar year above Nisaab amount.

What is the nisab? (read below for explanation in todays figures - otherwise it was 7.5 tolas = 24 gold dinars = 1/40th of all gold above nisab)

To be liable for zakat, one’s wealth must amount to more than a threshold figure, termed the “nisab”. To determine the nisab, the are two measures: either gold or silver.

  • Gold: The nisab by the gold standard is 3 ounces of gold (87.48 grammes) or its cash equivalent. This is approximately £650 or $926.40, but will vary with the current market value of gold. For the latest prices, refer to the Online Zakat Calculator
  • Silver: The nisab by the silver standard is 21 ounces of silver (612.36 grammes) or its equivalent in cash. This is approximately £70 or $130.

Remember the money you are stating should have been the average of your balance for last 12 months.

yes if it has been in their possession for one complete year, since 6000 is above the worth of nisaab today for sure.
