So I’m curious…is it a conscious effort on your part to ensure that your kids have a “worldly and well-rounded” personality?
Do you actually think about introducing them to literature, arts, music, etc. etc?
If yes, at what age?
Considering that most of us already live within two cultures and languages, where do you draw the line at exposure to non-desi and non-western stuff?
Re: How to build a "well-rounded" personality......
Yes I do think the parents play a big role in providing the exposure to their children from which a child picks their interests and develops their strengths.
Re: How to build a "well-rounded" personality......
Yes.
We start with the kind of books they read. At 8, my daughter is already reading biographies, national geographics, etc.. I want to expose her to different material so she can develop her interests.
Then yes, during our travels, we discuss details about the places where we are going, take them to noteworthy landmarks...
We also encourage them to participate in school programs.

Giving your kids the learning resources can help them develop a well-rounded personality and besides it helps them also to choose what field they are interested in, to further pursue in the future. And as parents we also have the role to teach them how to behave properly in public because kids are now being banned from restaurant as businesses banish bothersome tots.
