Re: How To Build A Tin Can Waveguide WiFi Antenna
U should plan on building a cell tower when u move into ur house. I'm still working on a list of stuff I'm going to put into my new house.
Re: How To Build A Tin Can Waveguide WiFi Antenna
yar thing is.. what i was saving to get a bike (after i got into a good-paying fulltime position) went into putting the downpayment of the house.. and just as i started coming OUTTA that bruise, i was told that another 10G will be needed..
SO ..
my “list” went outta window. i have 4 computers in apt as of now (family), as part of 2005 resolution, i’m STILL in process of making the fifth one.. PRIMARY for my abuse-purposes.. (bells 'n whistles)..
so khair.. what i had in mind was:
. basement: will house my recreation machines (treadmills, all-in-one-no-weights gymsets etc), home theatre (long shot now) and my abuse-machine.
. living room: will contain family’s computer (which is MY computer rite now), powerful 'nuff to be used by the tomdickharrys of the family “oh kool, computer” (jump).
. bedrooms: mine will have my toy laptop i use for lazy stuff (lying in bed, not wanting to get up, checking downloads and minimum stuff) and another machine (currently under family’s posession) that one will have windows 98se (a lil out-dated, but VERY powerful for 98’s level hardware). plus its good to have an old OS lying around, for “whatever” purpose. second laptop is my sister’s which will stay in their room as her husband uses both machines back’n forth like me..
router: was thinking in terms of 802.11n (hears some roars in the back) and its extender.. so THIS thread covered that part.. enough money lying around, i was thinking of those range extenders with tripple ants. the belkin corporation has some half-decent ones, but linksys and 3com are my faovurites so far.. dlink is good if u buy dlink equipment all-across..
HOWEVER, i was, is AND will remain the labour-type person, and would like to dig holes and drill and use cabling.. if its possible in any case i duno why since wireless is so convenient, and “todays thing to do” .. but i guess, thats in my blood ![]()
cabling on the other hand, i dunno why but i feel is less ‘maintenance’ .. much time needed to setup and stuff.. but I like it.. ![]()
Re: How To Build A Tin Can Waveguide WiFi Antenna
That's why u get the house setup before u move in. Run CAT5 all over the house, 2-3 runs if needed. U never know what u can use it for. Basement to attick and in between. Let's suppose u want a modem line on floor 0, all u have to do is patch it in the basement. How cool is that?
Re: How To Build A Tin Can Waveguide WiFi Antenna
its a new house :( so i could only get upgrades upto a point.. like all 4 levels will be hooked up with television/internet cabling patch panels, ALL ROOMS. 3 levels were coming with standard package of telephone patch panels and i upgraded by paying basement also .. so telephone and cable patch panels will be in place in ALL levels, including basement.
what i did in this apartment was in order to hookup sister's bedroom with cat5, i snaked the cat5 over their television cable, and use the 8modular crimper to put the end-connector in her bedroom..
VERY clean and tidy setup..
problem? once needed to be taken out at time of moving, end-connector will be needed to cut.. torture i'm willing to go-thru cuz of the cleanliness i had.. :-)
