We know rented properties usually have magnolia walls with basic plain furniture. So my question is how to turn a boring rented house into a lively happy place?
I can think of colorful and glittery cushions. What else?

Re: How to brighten up a rented property?
A bright rug?
Bright wall art, maybe
Ask the landlord if you can do a wall paper of your choice on a specific wall .. usually landlords allow it as long as its just a single wall or something. We have allowed our tenants to do that and they have totally given a new look to the property .. its awesome .. also encourages them to live in the place for longer ..
you can also make bright tablerunners/covers..
Put some stylish lamps and floor cushions maybe ?
Now you can get entire wall size cling film panels, imagine wallpaper that you can just put on like a 3m sticker and take off without the hassle of usual wallpaper.

Ooh…I’m gonna google those.
Re: How to brighten up a rented property?
I let my tenants make whatever paint changes they want to, but require them to return it back to the original, neutral at the time of move out (at their own expense). I personally would not let any tenant do anything semi permanent like wall paper.
Wall decals would be ok though.

U can use wall decals (love the chandelier silhouette) like x2 and khatti suggested ( great minds think alike
) and you can probably stage it with bright colored inexpensive drapes, you can use a colorful throw on a sofa or bed to bring some color. Also put lemons or apples in a vase or a big bowl for a pop of color and you can use it as well so its not wasted. I dont know why but I am assuming this is about your place in england. There are rent a space centers and you can rent sofa wagera but they have accessories as well.. For staging purposes so check those out too. And if this is your place in Qatar, get bright colored vases funky bright colored or sombered out (6if that is your cup of tea) fabric to spruce up the place. Wall art is awesome and fir an inexpensive piece of art, cover a canvas in a bold fabric or wallpaper and hang it. Voila!! Bright and cheery!! Oh an im inviting myself over

Re: How to brighten up a rented property?
We were renting a place which had the standard cream walls in all rooms. Our landlord had to re-paint the apartment anyway, so he offered to do it up in colors of our choice. We kept the cream color, but got an accent wall in each room in a different color. Sort of defined the character of each room.. soothing shades for the bedrooms and lively colors for the kitchen and living space.
The living room had a bright orange accent! I got this gorgeous carpet from India.. it was navy with a hint of orange and red so it went with the orange wall without looking like a candy store. We stuck to neutral shades in the furniture. Where we lived the winters got really cold and the orange made our home seem warm and cozy, in stark contrast to the snow outside.
