Hi there

Does anyone know what steps someone has to take to become an Imam?

How long does it usually take?

At what age can you be an Imam?

Is it possible to be an Imam by the age of about 26 - 28?

It’s best to take the traditional approach and become an Aalim. It usually takes 7 years. Some even finish it in 5 years. So yeah, it’s more than possible to become an Imam at that age.

the imam at the masjid i used to go to was in his late 20s / early 30s..i believe he was an Alim.

If I'm not mistaken, you can lead salaat once you're baligh (mature). I remember praying behind people in their teens.
