No doubt no one would like their money been spent on an individual’s pleasure, but we have to keep the bigger picture in mind. There always will be some corruption but what percentage of tax money goes to drain is the main issue. When collected taxes are in trillions of pounds, then few hundred thousands spent on few individuals won’t have a huge impact on available funds for development & welfare. No doubt even a single penny should be accounted for, but that does not mean those taxes are unjust. In UK NHS alone needs billions of pounds every year and it’s still short of cash. We pay up to 55-57% as direct and indirect taxes, which is I think among highest in world, but still some departments are under-funded. When one is earning and paying taxes, he THINKS these taxes are unjustified or too much. But a time comes when he stops earning because of old age or some unforeseen circumstances and have to rely on State’s facilities. Only then he realises the importance of well funded welfare & medical care schemes.
