How to avoid paying taxes.

Re: How to avoid paying taxes.

How about the people stop paying taxes and the establishment move to another country where the local population love being coerced into paying 30%+ of their hard earned money because its 'cool' or whatever reason it is. For centuries the State has robbed people at bayonet point and called it “taxation", the "social good", it is only right that when opportunity arises that the people find loopholes in the system and deny every penny to the government.

Re: How to avoid paying taxes.

what is your take on Healthcare & social services, civil infrastructure, state pensions, law & order upkeeping in your country? IF their quality, and of other facilities, is beyond your needs then sure you have a right to ask government to cut taxes and bring the standard down to meet a standard which is sustainable within the taxes you want to pay. The point is you can't have best of both worlds. If you want best facilities then be ready to pay higher taxes.
Expending on war MAY BE an issue for USA & UK tax payers, but I don't think Australia is expending huge amounts of money and resources on wars in Afghanistan & Middle East.

taxes are like

as u sow, so shall u reap

I would also like lower taxes but not at the cost of my services. One thing I would like to is greater accountability by the government officials when spending OUR money. A lot of times they're not spending it responsibly. Every so often I hear about a scandal of some government officials getting caught for spending on something ridiculous like a $1000 bottle of wine for lunch and spending tax money for their personal things.

No doubt no one would like their money been spent on an individual's pleasure, but we have to keep the bigger picture in mind. There always will be some corruption but what percentage of tax money goes to drain is the main issue. When collected taxes are in trillions of pounds, then few hundred thousands spent on few individuals won't have a huge impact on available funds for development & welfare. No doubt even a single penny should be accounted for, but that does not mean those taxes are unjust. In UK NHS alone needs billions of pounds every year and it's still short of cash. We pay up to 55-57% as direct and indirect taxes, which is I think among highest in world, but still some departments are under-funded. When one is earning and paying taxes, he THINKS these taxes are unjustified or too much. But a time comes when he stops earning because of old age or some unforeseen circumstances and have to rely on State's facilities. Only then he realises the importance of well funded welfare & medical care schemes.

Re: How to avoid paying taxes.

Hey Slick. I did not finish reading this entire thread because I got too angry when reading some of your posts.

Taxpayers fund education up to age 18. So all children have a free and actually very good education from kindergarten through high school at no cost to the parents. Taxpayers fund garbage removal, road maintenance, electric and gas lines, free medical care, college or vocational training to the poor, food and housing support for the poor. In Canada, taxes are much higher because of the vastly higher level of support given to citizens - like healthcare and living cost.

You're the type that would be the first to complain if you dont like the curriculum at your kids school or you lost electricity for more than an hour, or could not receive treatment at your choice of hospitals, if you blew out a tire in a pothole or if your road became impassable due to snow or landslide. Who pays for all of these things? Upstanding taxpayers. Those who worm their way out of paying taxes are freeloaders on the rest of us upstanding citizens.

Take a more careful look...why do you think that Pak hasnt good roads, has no public school system or public health care in place? Because everyone is too busy avoiding their civic duty in paying taxes.

Re: How to avoid paying taxes.

If you don't want to pay taxes then don't. But then you should also opt out of all of the benefits provided by those tax dollars, i.e. equal access to public school education, and all of the infrastructure/social services made available through the tax dollars (roads, hospitals, social security).

Pay for all of those services privately (on an as needed basis) and see how far your income takes you.

Totally agree..
