what is your take on Healthcare & social services, civil infrastructure, state pensions, law & order upkeeping in your country? IF their quality, and of other facilities, is beyond your needs then sure you have a right to ask government to cut taxes and bring the standard down to meet a standard which is sustainable within the taxes you want to pay. The point is you can't have best of both worlds. If you want best facilities then be ready to pay higher taxes.
Expending on war MAY BE an issue for USA & UK tax payers, but I don't think Australia is expending huge amounts of money and resources on wars in Afghanistan & Middle East.
