how to apply foundation thats a shade lighter

ok before people say BUY YOUR OWN SHADE, i know and have seen people, esp prof make up artists, using a colour lighter, for a fairer look, if you look at any celebs, indian celebs that is, or even us mere mortals, in certain functions i have seen so many people looking lighter, and its all down to wearing a foundation lighter than ur actual skin culour…we all do it..

ok now i want to know how to apply it, because if applied wrong you look dumb.

the make up artist for my wedding and engagement used kroylan on me, it was in ivory i think, if i used it myself i look silly, like a ghost, but she made it look like my own skin culour although it wa only a slightly fairer shade than me…

so how do we do it…sponge? brush?

how to blend in neck..esp now that my neck is darker..maybe due to pregnancy …but generally neck is abit darker …

Re: how to apply foundation thats a shade lighter

I prefer a brush compared to a sponge. A sponge kinda soaks most of the foundation in.

  • Dab the stick foundation all over your face

  • Blend downwards with your fingers (to fill-in any open/large pores) and outwards.

  • Go over with a foundation brush and make sure you've left no tide-lines or streaks.

  • 'Set' it with a pressed powder that's the exact shade.

  • You might have to use 2 different colors for your face and neck.

  • Use a large fluffy brush to brush-off all excess powder.

I think 1 shade lighter is okay.......in fact Bare Minerals sells their kits wiht 2 different shades b/c they realize most people usually need 2 differnet colors throughout the year, or need to blend.

But our desis take it too far and go like 6 shades lighter, and thats what loks awful
