Re: How to answer following interview questions

I would tell u how i will answer, some ppl may disagree. Plus, it is not always exactly what u say, rather ur whole presentation, confidence and character during u answer these questions  It is also important to research about the organization and kind of a job u r applying for, u will have to mend ur answers according to that.

  1. Tell me about urself.

Dont start telling ur qualifications and experience, they have gone thru ur resume and they know all that, but yes, a shallow reminder ofcourse. Instead, use this opportunity to mention other creative activities/work which is not in ur resume, try to sound like u really enjoy the kind of work they r offering. this is also a time to make things more friendly & relaxed. Also mention some of ur extra curricular activities or how u spend ur free time etc, but be careful, dont sound like u r always doing that sport or something (or when ll u work:) … try to sound like a optimistic, realistic and positive person.

Be very careful in ur answers bcos this is a point which may determine the direction of ur interview, the things u mention, interests etc… so make sure u know about what u say… plus make sure u r speaking for the right amount of time, not too short nor too long. try to be precise.

Why do u want to work for this organization?

do ur research about the company, before going for the interview, find some facts, and collect the positive ones. if u can find some names of ppl and their profiles specially if they r big names, use them too as u would like to work with them, use the facts u found, its oki to let them know u did ur homework to find out all this info bcos u r dedicated person, u r serious about where u work etc

What kinda salary u need?

some ppl will suggest u to say a very high one to show ur caliber, and some may suggest to say something very less so u get the job. I would say be realistic, u should know how much people get on those posts … say something bit higher then the average.

Last 2 questions

these r the tricky one’s … u have to merge and fit the facts u find about the company & job into ur plus points & resume, this answer will be different for almost all the interviews.

:bravo:

thank you

Re: How to answer following interview questions

Mr JonyBr, you live in Karachi ?

Re: How to answer following interview questions

In addition to what JonyBr mentionedm here's my take on this topic;

  • Tell me about yourself: What the interviwer is essentially asking is "Why Should I hire you". You need to tell them why you are a good fit through your experience/education/personality/chemistry/etc.
  • Why do you want to work for this organization? Here what the interviwer is looking for is two things 1) Have you done your homework and 2) Will you commit/stay for long term. You need to read up on the company, primarily through their website and their PR. Also it is a good idea to read up on the industry they play in and understand the different dynamics. You need to show that you believe in the company and it aligns with your long term goals
  • What kind of salary do you need? In my view **NEVER* answer this question. If pushed hard, only tell them them what you are currently making as a package, i.e. salary + benefits and you focused on opportunity and career more than money. You do not want to be disqualfied because you want too much or too little. At the same time you don't want to loose out on potential money because you asked for amount X while hiring manager had a budget of X+Y. Your goal is to get through the interview and get an offer. Once you have received the offer, you have the upper hand and you are in a better position to negotiate salary/benefits *
  • Explain how you would be an asset to this organization This question is about job fit. What the interviewer is essentially asking is whether or not you are qualified to do the job. You need to understand the job requirements very well. It is also a good idea to look at other jobs within the same firm to see potentatial collaboration/team work scenarios
  • Why do you think you would do well at this job? In this question what the interviwer is asking is how would you excel at this job. Anyone can do the job, but employers wants to hire very productive and energietic people who would excel and go above and beyond. You need to tie your job qualifications; i.e hard skills (academic/experience) with your soft skills, i.e. attitude/personality (team work, time management skills, taking responsibility)

Often same question is asked in more than one way and the difference in your answer helps the interviewer differentiate between truth from lies. So practice, practice and more practice .... your story line and stay consistent. Don't try to wing it!!!

Hope this helps.

All the best

Re: How to answer following interview questions

boston.. i really like’ ur answer for the salary question :k:

Re: How to answer following interview questions

Thats the very good reply. If I ask you these questions, how would you answer me ?

Re: How to answer following interview questions

Right now I am in KL, Malaysia.

:bravo:

Re: How to answer following interview questions

Boston I slightly disagree with the salary answer, not answering is sometimes considered both, 1. sounding desperate to get a job (at any salary)…2. Rude, s/he is the interviewer and he expects u to answer the question which u can, he is not going to keep repeating himself.

:bravo:

Re: How to answer following interview questions

I fully uderstand where you are coming from JonyBr. But in my 17 year high tech career, I have always stood by the rule to never discuss money until there is a offer. To combat the two very legitimate concerns that you mentioned, it is imperative that you do not just give a flat no answer, but make it clear that career, fit, work, chemistry, benefits, etc. are priority for you. If pushed very hard, you can always tell them you are making X and will expect a pay based on market conditions/value and overall benefits package. Often that is enough to give the hiring manager a ball park figure without locking you in.

What has worked for me does no necessarily the right thing for everyone, one must judge his or her own situation and do what they think is right for themselves.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: How to answer following interview questions

True that, and sorry i wasnt answering mrkool considering he will be applying for a job when he has 5+ years experience (things/answers/demands) change then  I expressed my opinion for someone whos going for a entry level job or with around 2-3 yrs experience.

For someone who has 5+ yr experience i ll back ur answer.

:bravo:

Re: How to answer following interview questions

I always wonder how people can assess anyone in just few minutes? I never got a job on the basis of interviews i.e. I always failed in interviews. Indeed one of the interviews was the most embarrasing event of my life. I got job only on somebody's recommendations and I think so far in my life I have not let my them down in work life.

Re: How to answer following interview questions

^Moonstar if we r talking about pakistan then its useless to discuss this anyway

Without mentioning the name of this ‘Big’ company i ll tell you what i have seen with my own eyes in karachi, there r hundreds of resumes for only 2 posts, so the sorting process starts, simply throw away all the applicants who dont live in clifton/defence, in second phase throw away all those who r not masters (and i think even a 1 yr diploma was sufficient for that job), then those who dont have experience. In the end there are still too many to call, so the final sorting starts with the looks in their photographs

:bravo:

Re: How to answer following interview questions

Hmmm! One of the reason for the very low response I got on my applications! You are right!
