QUETTA, April 22 (AFP): Gunmen late Tuesday shot dead the Pro Vice Chancellor of Balochistan University, police said.
Safdar Kiyani, 59, was gunned down near the campus in Quetta when he was returning to the university after his routine evening walk, senior police officer Qazi Abdul Wajid told AFP.
“The assailants opened fire before he could enter the campus,” Wajid said, adding that Kiyani died on his way to hospital.
The attack was claimed by a militant group, Balochistan Liberation Army. “He had been working for the intelligence agencies and we had already warned him,” the group’s spokesman Beeberg Baluch told reporters in phone calls from an undisclosed location. (First Posted @ 19:52 PST Updated @ 21:18 PST)
How is the new government tackling with this terrorist outfit??? By releasing their terrorist agents from the Jails?? We still have to see a constructive effort to curb on terrorism and terrorist activities in Pakistan rather then doing some ill willed contracts with these terrorist outfits.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
ina lillaahi wa ina ilayhi ra ji oon
this is indeed sad
they can always try force but force never works in long term. this is quite shameful. there are some extreme elements in the BLA. many people are afraid to wear western dress because it is seen as a symbol of punjabism within quetta.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
This is a national loss.
To me a Zardari led govt with Musharaf still presiding is like jumping from the fire onto the frying pan with the fire still on.
Pakistan's choices seem to be getting burnt to a crisp or deep fried.
How do you secure every person in the country? May be issue bullet proof vest to all civilians (the army doesn't need them anyway since they simply lay down arms at first sign of trouble)
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
In my opinion, things got out of hand after Musharraf started the genocide of ethnic baloch tribes ( Bugti and Marri tribes). There would be reaction from these tribes.
The best way would be to compensate these people , negotiate with them, table talk , live n let live.
The current situation has taught us " Use of Force " is never a solution to any problem

You are joking around I'd imagine. Of course you are. Then again, you may be very naive and ignorant perhaps. Some Balochi tribes have been anti Pakistani since day 1. Every Pakistani government has bombed them, because they have always had weapons from indian intelligence and have been attacking Paksitanis. Hence they have always been bombed, with the worse coming in the 60's. or was it under zaleel ul haq's time.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
The Baloch have a strong sardar system and the fact that the Government did nothing to erode it is bad. Dialogue is needed and development too. Not just mega projects which will benefit the whole of Pakistan but projects which will specifically bring the local people out of their misery.
Bugti was a cruel man but he became a hero for the Baloch. His followers followed him blindly. There are still many Baloch who are pro-Pakistan but surely they will eventually have enough if real concrete steps are not taken for their progression.

Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
First of All Pakistan Govt need to seal the border with Afghanistan ( using barb wire etc), 2ndly govt should announce forgivness for anyone who surrenders, in parallel to making political and social reforms in the province.
as a 3rd step, take necessary step to stop international powers ( like India) to interfere, now this can be done by having a counter-terorrism technique, saying backing freedom movements in India... this will bring India on the table of negotiations.
I believe by doing so, the activities will reduce gradually and if still there is something, than govt. should also warn and take severe actions against the persons involved in these activities.
Last not least, Pak-Army should focus more on Balochistan for recruitment...
Professor of political science department in Balochistan University Professor Mansoor Akbar Kundi said that Professor Safdar Kayani had no personal enmity. Safdar Kayani was a very competent teacher. Kayani joined Balochistan University as botany professor.
A self-claimed spokesman of banned militant organization Baloch Liberation Army, Beebarg Baloch claimed the responsibility of the attack and said that the professor has links with intelligence agency.
Beebarg Baloch said that the armed tribesmen have also attacked security forces in Chabi Kach and Karmo Wadh areas of Kahan in Kohlu district, but officially this claim was not confirmed.
Moreover reports pouring in from Dera Bugti stated that a water supply line meant for oil and gas company was destroyed near Dera Bugti and a Frontier Corp vehicle was struck to a landmine in the same area where three personnel were injured.
A spokesman of another banned militant organization Baloch Republican Army, Sarbaz Baloch has accepted the responsibility of both attacks. Sarbaz Baloch said that labourers working for the construction of the Kachi canal were attacked where two were killed and three were kidnapped.
Sources said that some of the missing people including two journalists Munir Mengal and Javed Lehri were released in Quetta. Some of the missing people like Wahid Qambar, and others were handed over to the Panjpai and Dhadhar police stations. Munir Mengal, Javed Lehri and Ibrahim Gurgnari reached their homes in Khuzdar.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Don’t confuse BLA with MQM. BLA is fighting for the rights of Bloachestan that was illegally occupied by Pakistan in 1948. Balochs have their own language and culture and just like Bengalis they don’t want to give up their beautiful language in favour of torna, phorna, jorna type funny Urdu language whose whole pround are a few hundred loaned Persian and Arabic nouns that hardly any of its native speaker uses correctly. Zardari sought apology from Balochs for the injustice and atrocities committed by Pakistan, but that is not enough-their only solace would be the complete provincial autonomy they have been demanding for.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Might as well give what they want and get the hell out of there. If there still are some people that shut their brains and start blaming "international powers" while at the same time being deoendent upon them for day to day subsistence of the country!
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Sorry. Balochistan and ethnic Balochistanis are part of Pakistan and Pakistanis. The tiny minority of half a million ethnic tribes that don’t want to be can either live with it and stop the terrorist attacks, or face annihilation.
I think your people need education, moreso then the rest of Pakistan even.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Thats not True During the referendum of 1945 and 1946 elections the majority of Balochs voted for Pakistan and hence the become part of Pakistan. Balochistan before 1947 was divided into states of Kalat, Naraan, Lasbela and Makran . All three states except Kalat voted in Majority for Pakistan except for the state of Kalat but later even the khan of Kalat joined forces with Quaid-e-Azam.
So my request is that dont portray a negative image of baloch people n tribes.
What Musharraf has done is very bad. Even I would have retaliated if my family was bombed and killed by Pak Army. Check these pics they are from BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/urdu/specials/images/1140_bugti_refugees/1113550_washing_up.jpg
Displaced and Orphaned by Army Operation. Bugti children forced to drink water from dirty ponds alongside animals. http://www.bbc.co.uk/urdu/specials/images/1140_bugti_refugees/1113543_two_kids.jpg
These cute kids are declared terrorists by Tyrant Musharraf’s regime and no international aid agency is allowed to help these children. These children are dieing of hunger and disease. http://www.bbc.co.uk/urdu/specials/images/1140_bugti_refugees/1113514_kids_topi.jpg
Due to lack of clean water resources these baloch kids have stomach ailments and most of them have lost their kidneys.
With all that cruely inflicted on them, houses distroyed, children and women bombed by armed forces, no food no water…what else could u expect from them? roses or tulips?
Musharraf must stop his hostilities against balochistan and stop genocide of balochs
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Musharraf made these kids to drink water from puddles???Are you serious???You get a tech to spun the story in a completely different direction. BLA is fighting for a “homeland” they can do the same to Nawaz’s or Zardari’s “supposed people” , if they won’t let these terrorists get their “dream of homeland”.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Its funny that you appreciate them for fighting for their language and call it beautiful while at the same time you ridicule another language of the same country. Oh wait, you are the same person who uses terms like “you Pakistanis” so I understand that all.
Re: How they will deal with Balochistan National Army(BLA)?
Thats what I said. Majority of Baloch are great and hard working. There is a minority that hates Pakistan, and are supplied weapons by India. THAT is unacceptable, and if they don’t stop, i support thier annihilation.
** Have you seen what your links are labeled? lol You just owned yourself. Most of them have lost their kidney’sLOL. This is hilarious. Do you have some more stories? Here I’ll start.
**
O man its so sad. 80 percent of those kids have stopped opening their eyes because musharraf comes in the night.

No referendum ever took place anywhere in Balochestan. Lasbela and Makran were a part of Kalat whereas Quetta and the Bolan Pass were taken on lease from the Kalat State by the British colonialist. Kalat declared independence on the 11h of August 1947 but it was forcibly annexed by Pakistan.
