Re: how Target, er, targets parents
scary !!!! I hate that these places have so much knowledge of us.
Re: how Target, er, targets parents
I remember I bought pre natal vitamins off a website and voila three weeks later I kept getting offers in the mail for my new "arrival"

predictive analytics...oh good god. big data, predictive analytics, BI tools, multichannel mashups. This is the future of marketing, and it is here, has been here and those using it successfully are driving results. From 'simple' suggestions on amazon, to ads on Facebook. how websites creatives, graphics, images and offers can look different to you than someone else logging on the same site, all the way to the future in addressable video..
even if there is minimal personal purchase details available, massive data crunching and analytics paired with demographic info can show what you are more likely to purchase or do compared to an average person.
That is what I do. Love it.

what is the big deal?
Re: how Target, er, targets parents
privacy concerns, who has what information about you and what do/will they do with it.
and more than that, how secure is that information from getting in dodgy hands
Re: how Target, er, targets parents
Tt is creepy. I think tracking online activity is even more creepy. However like X2 said it's the future of marketing.
