How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

For those of you who are not fimilar with Auto-Racing.

Danica Patrick is a 21 year old Irish-American Racing phenom.

At a time when in Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to drive, Danica is beating the best in the world at their own game.

I was just wondering, how long it will take before we see a muslim women racing cars professionally racing circuits?

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

^Get a life.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

I understand where you want to go with this thread » Equality of women and men in Muslim countries.

But

This Danica example is a very lame one as far as im concerned.

How many muslim male professional race drivers you can count on your fingers? Better yet, how many speedways are there in muslim countries?

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

Exactly, can you get one....

Woman racer upsets testosterone-driven Iran
By Aresu Eqbali (AFP)

TEHRAN - When behind the wheel, Iranian women have to
put up with all sorts of verbal abuse from the
testosterone-charged types that dominate the Islamic
republic's highways -- such as being told to tend to a washing
machine rather than a car.

But Iran's women drivers, most of whom are clearly ill at ease
navigating the anarchic road network, now have a national idol:
a young woman nicknamed "Little Schumacher".

Laleh Seddigh, 28, is fast emerging as one of Iran's foremost
race car drivers, leaving the best of the men racers behind in
her saloon car.

"Resistance from men does not bother me," Seddigh told AFP
at a recent track race event held at Tehran's Azadi stadium.
"Once I get on the track I like to use my technical skills, take
control and dominate the other drivers."

At the race, the petite woman racer caused yet another upset by beating off her fellow 12 Proton teammates -- all of whom are men -- much
to the delight of the small group of female fans watching from their part of the segregated stadium.

"In Iran, whenever there is a traffic jam and there is a woman in it, the male drivers ridicule her and blame only her," noted Nazanin, a
22-year-old race fan. "It's a relief to see there is someone like Laleh."

"It is not only her high level of self-confidence," explained her trainer Saeed A'rabian, himself a former national champion. "She is extremely
talented and has got a very nice style."

Until Seddigh became a professional driver three years ago, she was just one of the many relatively wealthy young people who cruise and
race around town -- breaking several bones and earning the nickname of "little Schumacher" after the German Formula One champion
Michael.

She learned how to drive at the age of just 13, and admits to having "snatched the car keys and sneaked out of the house, always in fear of
police" before she got her driving license. At her day job Seddigh works as a managing director of a trade company that produces spare car
parts, but full-time racing beckons with sponsorship offers from Proton, Mazda and Hyundai.

But keeping afloat in the male-dominated sport is still not plain
sailing for Seddigh.

"The last time I won a race, people were gossiping. They said my
victory was fixed. Even some women in the carting and rally
scene doubt my success," Seddigh recounted.

"And every time I want to practice or make a test drive, the track
staff ask me for a letter of permission -- even though I am the
captain of the Proton speed team. Men never have this kind of
hassle."

And then there is the conservative state television's coverage of
her wins: even though Seddigh pulls a poncho over her tight race
overalls before taking the winners' podium, pictures of her
holding a trophy are for some reason censored.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

Women should drive race cas with hijaab over helmet

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

Question, but why aren't saudi women allowed to drive ? In what way is it unislamic ?

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

Cars were not present when Islam was revealed to the prophet PBUH.

(Driving like a maniac round and round, and pleasing beer drunk blue collar, P-cap wearing admirers and taking chance of dying miserably is not a role model by any sense)

Any such law like in KSA is purely the law of the land and must be accepted and respected like any laws anywhere else.

Those who do not agree with the laws of land must leave the land if not citizens or use peaceful, legal ways to protest.

I agree with the posters who said clearly to the thread starter............get a life!

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

I can't wait to find who will be the next 'hero' in the mind of the thread starter............so he can bash another muslim country or its laws........:)

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

not a hero, but someone who breaks taboos and challenges these backward thinking that plagues the muslim world

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own “Danica Patrick”?

Female Pakistani fighter piolots are more impressive.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

So why not mention someone who does something useful in the world?

What is 'backward' thinking..describe it. I can say with confidence you have no idea what 'backward thinking' really means and who actually is plagued with it.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

Hey guys calm down. Americans have Danica of Patrick, while Iranian Moolahs will soon get a Danda of Patrick.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

backward thinking is gang raping a women on the call of village elders when she was seen talking to a man of a different tribe... (Mukhtar Mai, or do you consider her to be a Mossad agent?)

backward enough for you?

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

It is true that in usa women are discriminated for senior positions compared to men. But women in the west have way more rights then what we give them in the subcontinent. Having a head of state as women does not mean we treat them better. India, pakistan and bangladesh have had women prime ministers, but women have no were the same rights in the west. I think we can learn a lot from the west:). We desi guys have EGO and there is no denying about it. I have been in aus for the last 8 years and my attitude has changed a lot, i think it changed for good.

Those guys who feel threatened my women having more rights and power, just think abt it wouldnt you prefer your daughters to live in a world were they have equal rights and not treated like 2nd class citizens. I would.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

This has got to be one of the dumbest threads on GS in a long long time. But I am glad I got a chuckle out of mulz's post.

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own “Danica Patrick”?

Re: How soon before the Muslim world gets its own "Danica Patrick"?

Good summary.
