Re: how save for gifts
I don’t know about economical shopping in Karachi but about saving for gifts I usually assign a budget when I need to give a gift. I always keep in mind that oh someones birthday is coming up or someones getting married and I need to spend this much amount on the gift.
You can do it two ways:
Start with keeping in mind the occasion a few months prior. Assign a budget and allocate how much you need to set aside or save for the gift. Always keep in mind to keep a lil extra for last minute changes or keeping in mind the inflation. Save for it and then buy the gift.
Buy stuff off sales or when you get a good deal or when you have extra money to spend, keep them at home and stuff and then gift them when the occasion comes. Especially for clothes. Buy clothes from the season end sales and then as soon as the next season starts, you can gift them. You get such good deals this way!!!
Re: how save for gifts
I believe the name of the game isn’t to save for gifts, but rather save on gifts.
how save for gifts
Why do you have to give gifts monthly?
Are these all for birthdays, anniversaries etc? Or just for no reason?
Hadeel have some very good tips, but I’d like to also add that you should prioritize and decide if its a necessary purchase first of all. Like the saying goes, “jitni chaadar hai, utna hi pair pehlao”
I have a colleague who told me how she always puts money aside for her grandchildren and various other things like throwing a party or christmas- she actually starts saving for xmas from the following week! Basically with her monthly pay she puts away a small amount like £5-10 a month for each grandchild, leaves a nominal amount like £2 surplus a week with the butcher towards Xmas meat and say £10 aside a month for X thing then after 12 months, 6 months or whatever time period there is already money put aside for whatever expense. It’s through listening to her I’m following her advice and have a couple of savings accounts with different amounts going in. Something like £10/20 a month is not missed much for say any unexpected cost or treat but in 12 months thats £120-240 put aside for whatever u need without putting a strain on your budget! It helps tightening spending unnecessarily too which I do far too much.

Re: how save for gifts
I’ve learned this tip from a friend of mine. She will buy gifts - random gifts on sale and just stock up on them like crazyyyyyyyy. When the time comes, she will put a few together and give them to people. This is useful when you’re super social and have housewarmings, random dawats, birthdays of people you might not be super close to, etc etc etc. She goes to store closings, when we
I think its a great idea because last minute shopping gets expensive.
Re: how save for gifts
^ I do the same. If I see something that is a good value and I know of someone in my social circle that would appreciate it then I buy it and store it. We have always used one of our linen closets as a “gift closet”. It is usually stocked with at least one or two items for each gender, children and adults.
Re: how save for gifts
Cancerian…for Eid, you can even take a box of mithaai, or a nice cake, or assorted pastries/chocolates for your in-laws and friends. Something like that is given for the whole family, so you don’t have to bother getting an additional gift for other members. Wouldn’t that be more economical/convenient than buying several suits and worrying about colors and design and taste?
Don’t know how many in-laws you’re planning to visit on Eid, but just be careful cuz you don’t want to start a cycle that you’ll find difficult to keep up with in the future.
Re: how save for gifts
I also keep buying throughout the year esp things on sales/ clearance etc. As regards Karachi shopping Defense is an expensive area. But Gulf Shopping Mall isn’t that bad. Its in Clifton. Otherwise go to Tariq Road or Hydery which are about 45 minutes away from Defense.
