How safe is Peshawar?

So I might being going to Pakistan in the summer and wanted to visit Peshawar. However I have looked on the UK foreign office website and they recommend against all travel to Peshawar and its surrounding areas.

So how safe is it? And if its not safe, why not?

How safe is Peshawar?

Peshawar and surrounding area- possible Taliban threat and thus not advices by British gvt.

I've never been to Peshawar but got friends who visit every summer and they come out fine. Not sure how it is there.

Re: How safe is Peshawar?

better to avoid visiting Peshawar these days, UB. postpone your visit until things get better. if you HAVE to make the trip due to some important and unavoidable business to do then exercise extreme caution.

Re: How safe is Peshawar?

Dont go to Qisakhwani Bazar
Dont Go To Saddar bazar
Dont go to Karkhano bazaar
Dont go to namak mandi
if you cant go to any of the above places....do go to peshawar at all.

Re: How safe is Peshawar?

Generally Peshawar is still safe and there is no risk for short visit to Peshawar , If you have friends or relative there , They can guide you better , Stay in a hotel for a night is no problem .

Re: How safe is Peshawar?

If you listen or read news about Pakistan then you get there is some issue by Talban. British government can't allow to visit at this time Peshawar, Pakistan. Generally Peshawar is still safe for short visit. If you have some friends or relative there you have to discus with them. They can guide you in best sense.

Re: How safe is Peshawar?

Thanks for the info. I will have to look into it further.

Re: How safe is Peshawar?

Why visit Pakistan at all? You could be kidnapped from Punjab as well now. Two very high profile figures have been kidnapped from Punjab so in terms of safety Pakistan is not very good at all. I have been to Peshawar many times over the past few visits and will go again on my next visit Insha Allah. There are certain areas to avoid or make sure you are there for as limited a time as possible:-

  1. Do not stay in Western hotel chains or the big names in Pakistan.

  2. Western fast food outlets could also be targeted.

  3. Busy areas such as Saddar, Inner Peshawar are areas where bomb blasts have happened.

  4. Keep a distance from Shia Imambargahs, Christian churches etc - minorities have been targeted in the past.

  5. Try avoid busy areas but then also try avoid areas in the city where there are no people as kidnappers could target you.

  6. be very wary at night

Pakistan in general has become very unpredictable. I have visited all around Pakistan but two areas which really would cause me concern are Karachi and Quetta - both I visited in 2010 and before.
