Here is a copy of my letter to a close friend. I thought this should be shared in this forum as well.
How Pakistani media drives positive trends
Case in point! Devastation in Kashmir in the aftermath of the earthquake! People didn’t wait for anyone, including our own government. They just pooled the resources and set out to help the needy. No natural calamity in recent history in the whole world has an example similar to the one from Pakistan where local people got up and going. Governmental (national or international) help came later.
I see only one reason for the positive efforts at grass root level in any situation. That is! How our media reacts to and prepares people for that particular situation.
Pakistani media has spent decades after decades preparing Pakistanis to fight for the cause of Kashmir. Thus the result was pretty obvious. When Kashmir needed massive help, Pakistani people, rich or poor all got up and helped.
Had our media spent 60 years to prepare Pakistanis to fight and struggle for the cause of Pakistan, believe me, we would not be burning our buses, banks, and railway trains. We would be protecting and cleaning up our roads and streets. We would be growing rather than cutting down our trees.
Thus our need of the hour is not to suspect who is doing bad stuff against Pakistan. Instead our energies should be fully focused on projecting pro-Pakistan media blitz. And most of your letters do exactly that to highlight positive aspects.
Eidhi welfare trust is another good example. Few organizations in the world (and not just in our country) can match the resources of Eidhi. How did this great man Eidhi achive his mighty goals? Just a couple of things: by living a simple life, and quietly working on his mission with full sincerity, and media coverage. Any disaster big or small showed media pictures and reports of how Eidhi’s organization was there to help.
Please note that Pakistani people even when they belong to a so-called poor third world country, have contributed with their money and help Eidhi build this wonderful organization.
Thus Kashmir and Eidhi are two examples that clearly show that Pakistani nation is alive and well. It just needs positive media and a few sincere people at different levels. We need media spotlight to shine on building the nation. Believe me, this nation will do this and do it in few decades.
