How do u remember Pakistan changing from ur last trip to home land from the one before.
This is what i noticed/observed.
People have gone more materialistic than ever. Pretty kapray is all one cares for<3. And if u are seen wearing something comfy but not trendy like blingy kapray which really bites ur skin, they will think u are odd.
they brag.ALOT.
no matter how much they try to act educated / liberal. they are still slaves to the stereotypes.
For myself, I noticed that the younger generation is a lot more obsessed with status. A lot of them (not all) seem to try so hard to be Abercrombie wearing d-bags. It has also become more open in terms of dating and yes, even sex, without any of the discussion and education that should go along with it. I think people see movies and TV shows and think that the average American lives like that, so they try to emulate them.
Another funny thing I noticed is the cafes and shisha bars. It's just one step removed from the nightclubs you see here, but of course they can't open places like that there. I feel like smacking some of the people I met - clubs are not all that they're hyped up to be. I'd rather chill with my friends at a real cafe or at a restaurant.
My dad went back for the firs time in 11 years and he noticed that religious piety has increased a lot (mostly for the older generation), along with a dislike and mistrust of the current government as well as western powers. I'm not saying people have become fundamentalists, but he noticed that a lot of people are far more religious than he remembered them being. Interestingly, I think it's the opposite for the younger generation, as I mentioned above (but this is just my perception).
There has also been a lot of commercialization. But most of all, the concern with security is incredible. Women, apparently, don't wear expensive jewellery or anything, even to weddings in some cases. The place is a powder keg waiting to explode.
On my last trip I noticed alot more women driving and alot mroe women wearing abayas/hijabs/burqas/niqabs. Seriously. I guess it really depends on your family/social circle in pak.
