so people.. how often? i feel like doing the same routine over and over makes me bored and on top of that , i dont grow anymore. I hit a plateau. How long should one stay with one program and change it to something else?
Re: How often should an exercise program be changed?
Every month atleast.
Ideally every workout. This does not mean that you completely change your routine around. You can cycle between three or four workouts or you can cycle between goals. Say for example you have the following shoulder workout:
Smith Machine Barbell Front Press 5 Sets Reps : 6,6,8,10,15
Dumbbell Press
Lateral Raise 4 Sets 15 reps
Bent over Lateral Raise
Then the next week you can change it around and go with :
Dumbbell Arnold Press 5 Sets Reps: 8,8,10,10,15
Hammer Strength Behind the neck press 5 Sets
Lateral Raise
Bent over Lateral Raise
And then change around more the next week and then go back to the original workout the week after. This will keep your body guessing and make you grow fast.
Another way would be to set goals for every month.
1 month : strength gain : low reps 3 -7
2nd month: Mass Gain: High Reps: 8 to 12
3rd month : lean out: Higher reps : 12 to 20 Plus HIIT e.t.c
Re: How often should an exercise program be changed?
Yeah i agree, doing the same ol' same ol' gets tedious... so instead of just pounding away in the gym non stop, i try to incorporate different cardio exercises...i do exercise every day so i'll mix it up by going running outside, or going rock climbing, or doing a spinning class, martial arts, cycling, playing sports outside.... anything that gets the heart pumping...and then i cool down with some pilates or yoga....
mix it up... incorporate other types of exercise into your current workout....
Re: How often should an exercise program be changed?
maybe you have reached ur max growth level?
I usually switch my routine every few weeks. Mostly becauseI get bored easily with my workout regimen and have a need for change.
