In other words, how long do you keep a computer before getting a new one?

I buy a new computer when my old one either breaks or is insufficient to reasonably do something I need to do. That would be anywhere from one to three years in general.

The last one I bought (using right now) in December 2003. So far so good for me. But I am thinking of buying another one in next six or so months.

One year I buy desktop the next year a laptop, so it's a two year cycle.

I built my desktop **few *years ago (*6th one)... however, I *format *is every 9-12 months and just bought new LT but don't use it as much as the desktop.

New kampootar every 5 to 8 years... My last kampootar went up in smoke after 5 years I was very upset, It still had quite a few miles left... I bought top of the line AMD and intend to use it for 10 years after that I will sell it to some guppy at discount :D

I have a Athlon XP 3500 +...should run fine for another half year if I ugrade to 2 GB Ram...I need a new graphic card.. I will buy ATI RX1950PRO XTREME! Awesome card...Just 180 €

I think I won't need to upgrade for a year...

My passion for building new PC every 6 months ended long ago. I ended up giving away my PCs to family members.

I bought my last desktop PIII 450 Mhz with 256 RAM back in 1999. Since then I only added a CD writer and a 160GB IDE drive in it. I replaced 17" monitor to 21" flat screen. Thats about it. The beast is still rocking and never had a slight hiccup in last 8 years.

Last year I bought by Notebook ( I never needed before because of work notebook) Sony VAIO. It is working fine.

If I started my virtual machine projects, may be next year I will buy a 4Ghz dual-proc 64-bit with 4GB RAM (upgradable to 16GB) and half TB storage. That would be enough for next 8 years for me. I will add Blu-Ray burner and an 20" LCD TV/Monitor the year after.

hmmmmmmmmmm, i keep mind upto 3,4 years

& i buy next after staying 4,5 months without pc

as I hav replaced untill now, 4 pcs

i keep one for upto 2-3 years max and then i buy something else and use the previous one as back up or secondary use until it lasts.
