How much time is considered reasonable to be given to semi-arranged couples before getting married? Months? Years? And i understand, you cannot get to know ‘everything’ abt ‘everyone’ bc even after marriage you are getting to know new things abt your partner, so whats the cut-off? How much time does that leave btwn, lets say, baat-pakki/eng and shaadi?
Re: How much time?
Its true you would never get to know everything until ur living with the family, but you might get a fair idea of a lot of stuff. I dont think theres a stipulated cut-off time its whatever floats you boat really. For instance, if you and the guy are still studying it could go anywhere from a year to 3-4 years or even longer, if you wait for him to get a job, get settled etc.
Re: How much time?
Time frame differs for each couple. Some people like to date for a while before they marry while others are completely okay with arranged marriage right away.

i think even 1 in person meeting, even when the family is around, should be ok.

..reasonable, but maybe a few, just a few mins too early :-P
anyways, yeah..i always wondered what thoughts people put into when deciding it.
I know there isnt a cut off time, so what factors into you deciding it though?
Re: How much time?
Height, weight. color, race, sect, caste, beauty, language, religion and more importantly........ the opposite sex.
Compatibility, harmony, caring and love is over-rated. ;)

Re: How much time?
If one waits to learn about the person before marrying, one may end up waiting for decades, till the grey hair come. Still no guarentee.
Re: How much time?
I think that one should get married within 3-7 months after baat-pakki/eng and shaadi. Firstly because most designers won't even finish making your clothes in less than 3 months :) but if that isn't a concern it's the perfect amount of time to get to know each other a little better but at the same time short enough so that the excitement of the "vivah" still lingers.
Re: How much time?
3 seconds, 3 minutes, comeon guysss, give me a few days atleast!
hmm, good thoughts. Yeah, dont wanna end up waiting for decades, as diwana has addressed..but dont wanna feel like its happening in avrush either.
yeah, dont want it to get sooo prolonged that it starts to wear off, or leave breeding grounds for problems/complications. i think within 6 moths to a year is good.
