hello again ladies!
so we’ve been apartment hunting for a bigger place before the Bean arrives iA and i need your help and advice once again. we found a gorgeous place, new kitchen and appliances, its a period home so beautiful details and its a huge space, and we’re in love with it. the only drawback is that the washer/dryer are shared amongst the units so they’re 3 flights down in the basement. so my question is: how crucial is it to have a washer/dryer en suite with bebe around? how many loads of laundry did you guys do when bebe was a newborn? i think as they get older, it becomes slightly less because hopefully they soil themselves less? the laundry is making me wonder if we should just let this place go and keep looking… help!

I washed her stuff 2-3 times a week.
It depends to some degree on how many onesies and pajamas and stuff you have. But they are constantly spitting up or diapers leaking, etc.

The laundry does go down when they are older. If you really love the place, then just buy a little more baby clothes in the beginning. Some babies don't soil their clothes as much, just wait and see and buy accordingly later on. You shall be doing most of the clothes buying later on anyways, as you haven't found out the gender.

I did laundry twice a week till baby was about 4 months. Now he is 6 months and I still do it twice a week. So it's not such a big deal. Get the apartnment!

To be honest, keep looking if you have a choice! Lots and lots and lots of laundry work coming up when your LO arrives! Plus leaving your flat to do laundry somewhere else in the building is both cumbersome as well as difficult coz you don't want to leave your baby alone if your hubby is out!

they dont stay newborn forever… so unless you guys are planning on moving again in 3 months of time… i would say keep looking… you just dont have the time to go out and do laundry holding a basket in one hand, the baby in the other and your keys in your mouth. there will be a billion things to do so even if the weekend is laundry day … soon it wont be.
ok either i kept my newborn dirty or you guys were way way clean with your newborns.. hehe… but i had very little laundry with my newborn.. and that with him having acid reflux.. i think it depends on how much clothing you have for your newborn… if you only have 4 onsies and 5 pj sets.. then yes you will be doing laundry quite often.
and im also confused bout laundry going down as they grow older.. what?! mera bacha reverse mein tho naha jaraha? he started making horrible mess when we started him on solids.. wanting to eat himself… throwing pasta there and sauce here… even though his bib reached down to his legs.. still… his clothes got dirty… i do way more laundry now than i did when he was a newborn.

Laundary increases at they get older. Thats my experience. As then they are on their feets, collecting dirt from everywhere possible.
Maybe u can adjust a washer in your kitchen or bathroom, ask if they have a water connection somewhere in the apartment, otherwise I would not go for the flat.

Sgc, in my experience laundry increases with a newborn and just keeps on increasing as they get older. It's just not soiled clothes, runny nose, drool and spitups. And with these things you are changing at least 4 times a day. We don't have a dryer and I have to put clothes out in our parking area and believe me it is a hassle. Oh btw you r not only be doing the bean's laundry your own laundry will increase considerably

I think once they are running around and getting into things, it goes back up. But after they are out of the newborn phase and until they are more independent, I think the need to do laundry is less.

BritChick, we asked about having a washer/dryer installed in the unit but because the building is a period home essentially, one of those big mansion type places split into 4 units, the plumbing apparently cannot handle that amount of water, and they haven't updated the plumbing. I have a feeling updating that for the entire building is lots of $$$. Apparently, one of the other tenants tried a hook up in her apartment and flooded the unit below her causing serious water damage which she then had to pay for.
Dammit. Ok, so it seems an en suite washer and dryer really is necessary then... boo! (But.. but.. it has 9 foot ceilings, a brand new kitchen with new appliances, and is about 1500 square feet :/)
My bff said she has a really poopy baby and is doing 9 loads a week (!!!). Can you imagine doing that 3 flights of stairs down?? I'd probably lose the baby weight SO fast haha :p

i was thinking the same thing…with this apartment you won’t need to join JM shred workout group! 
In the beginning my baby pooped ALOT..at every feeding! It was just crazy and now more laundry coz of solid feeding!

The laundry gets done 2 times a week despite the fact that i wash all the clothes soiled by diaper leaks by hand.

it really depends on what you are like on normal basis too! Like for example my husband and I are so of neat freaks so we never ever (pre babies) had laundry piled up, after when the baby came he took care of the laundry (was on paternity leave) but now that i think if it, we could have gotten away with not doing so much laundry with the first baby, but my younger one is more a messier baby! I still have to change her couple of times during the day and put her in pjs at night, so that’s three outfits everyday! but now having 2 little ones around i have to find time to do couple of loads every 2-3 days or so or else we would be swimming in dirty clothes

i m actually shell shocked that some of u think the laundry decreases when the baby gets old. in my case def it increased, not alot but it did. and pls bear in mind i change my baby only once in a day. ok so pls dun freak out. its not gross! my baby is colicky, has had spit up milk (that curdy pattha doodth) only 4-5 times in 8 months!! can u believe it??? shes hardcore colicky :( so my baby rarely needed changes unless her potty leaked in that case chnged the pajama. plus its like, i dont live in pak where there are maasi's who can wash ur clothes. i wash them by hands. just recently i strted puttin them in washin machine and they were soooo clean. i wasted so mch energy all these months doin on my own!! anyways... in the end its ur decision whts ur priority.. if ur clothes and hubs dusnt get soiled that mch then consider goin down to do ur laundry otherwise choose the appt which has laundry facility in ur appt. its upto u decide as per ur priority
