I see a lot of Mums & Mums-to-be here and all of you may have done the Baby Preparations. Share your expenditures that occurred during the time of baby pre-birth preparations
I am not talking about the hospital/Gynae Charges. I am talking about the stuff you bought for your baby.
I would also like to know the essentials that is a mom supposed to buy to handle a newborn for at least 3 months without any further shopping.
One thing more, how much amount should be in hand , you think, that can help you have a âgood shoppingâ for your baby? Estimations? Here I am not talking about the lavish nursery furniture and extra-ordinary planning.. I am just talking about a âgood shoppingâ that can cover everything a baby requires with quality products including his/her clothes.
Please share.
Re: How much is spent over Baby Arrival Preparations??
Not much time. The sooner you begin Queen the more money you will spend. You should begin looking for deals now, if you have a long way to go you can find good sales on everything in a few monthsâ span.
The basics you should have are around 9 rompers, 4 wrapping sheets, 4 feeding bottles (4 oz each just in case), 80 newborn diapers, 2-3 packs of wetwipes, baby powder, baby lotion, baby oil, baby shampoo, a nursing pillow (or you can arrange whatever pillows you have at home). Initially you donât even need a bed, you can work with a basket too by putting bedding in it. A baby first aid kit is good with comb, nail clippers, thermometer, emery boards. Baby caps too!!
Johnsonâs lotion tends to dry out skin. It is not necessarily the best baby product out there.
Beyond that, you need to have a car seat if you are in the UK or USA because you wonât be allowed to take baby home without it. You need to ensure your carseat is REAR FACING. That is safest.
A stroller, best to get a good sturdy one with large wheels and adjustable handle which can extend into year 3-4 or next kid too.
A pack and play bed!!!
Sometimes you will come across sales on clothes which are too amazing to pass up. Clothes are really expensive otherwise. When you come across such sales, buy clothes in large sizes. Sizes 3-6 months last a lot, and 6-9 months also. Then I skip directly to 18 months. So you can stock up a bit if you want
Re: How much is spent over Baby Arrival Preparations??
I bought:
An infant car seat + car seat toys.
Stroller
Pack & Play
Swing
Bouncer
High Chair (baby started sitting in it at 4-5months)
Tons and tons of clothes, most of which they never wore
Crib + Bedding (bedding is SO expensive!)
Diaper bag + Diapers + Bottles
Room decor + Paint
and sooo much more We spent thousands! On a lot of things they never even used. The bouncer was so useless. So was the pack & play. I think the swing was the best thing I bought! Other than the necessities
Re: How much is spent over Baby Arrival Preparations??
Even though itâs our first baby, because things are so expensive here, we have either bought the following second-hand or have been given by friends:
Graco stroller + car seat travel system
Camp cot
Swing - cool fisher price one which has different rocking settings! Apparently the baby will sleep, eat in it!
Bouncer
Electric breast pump
Got new or at baby shower:
Bathing tubs
2 home-made linen sets - designed by Mum and MIL stitching
Lots of rompers
Breast pads
Towels
Blankets - different sizes and different materials
Baby bag
Bottles
Wipes
Bum cream
Still holding out on bibs etc. in case we get more gifts
Need to get:
Some cute hats
Nipple protectors
Nipple cream
Baby first aid kid
Button-down tops for me if I bf inshAllah and bigger maternity bras
Re: How much is spent over Baby Arrival Preparations??
My parents/sibblings bought us the big ticket items like crib, travel system, jumper, activity gym along with other chutter putter
I was very depressed on the last day of work ( according to our plan I was going to be a SAHM for atleast 2 years, which did not happen lol) so I went to babies r us on my way back and shopped my heart outâŚ
I bought:
1 set of bumper
5/6 fitted sheets
Crib mattress pad
6/7 changing/multipurpose pads
Swaddling sheets
Aveeno lotion and shampoo
Bath tub
Baby grooming kit
Baby friendly bathroom cleaner(yes I was crazy)
Baby towels, I only bought 2 sets but when he was born, we had to buy 5/6 more sets.
I bought training pants for 3 months olds (rolling eyes at myself now)
Hats, mittens, and socks
Diaper bag
Bottles
Drying rack(highly recommend)
Later we bought the electric breastpump, playpen when I started taking him to school, highchair last week (yay for that)
We got lot of clothes, booster chair, rattles, toys, pillows, blankets, bouncer and a swing in gifts. My son hated the bouncer and the swing as a baby.
I would suggest that buy things as you need them instead of stuffing everything beforehand.
