Is this kind of expense justified and be considered ‘Islamic’ when we lament the amount of poverty, homelessness and hunger in the world ?

Converting Saudi Riyals to US Dollar is easy because they've had a fixed rate for more than 20 years. 1 US Dollar = 3.75 SAR.

So 20 million SAR = 5.33 million US Dollars. That price tag sounds exaggerated to be honest.

I have heard (not confirmed) that they take off the old ghilaf and sell (auction) pieces of it and help the needy with the money.

Can someone confirm that?

I heard and its not confirmed, that Saudi Ministry that takes care of Masjidul Haraam and Masjidul Nabawai has no annual budget. It is allowed to spend whatever it takes.

As much as I am against KSA kingdom shwoing off her money, I thank Allah that Kaaba and Masjid-e-Nabawi is in KSA, cause the amount of money they spend for benefit of Hujjaj, no other country could.

Just imagine if Kaaba was in Pakistan. We would be begging from all muslim countries ke allah ke naam pe chandaa de do, like our masjid people do from mohallah to mohallah

^ they deserve the respect. They do it not as an investment that oh we will get more traffic and get money back. They do it purely for the khidmat of all the people who come for Umrah and Hajj.
