I am trying hard to give my 25 months old daughter enough food at bedtime so she can sleep throughout the night but I fail. Most of the times I give her cream of wheat cereal in butter n whole milk (about 6oz) then she drinks 4-6 ounces milk with carnation instant breakfast. This dinner is usually 30min before going to bed but…she makes my whole night miserable crying for milk, i have tried giving her water but after sometime she cries hard for milk. Because of drinking milk at night her teeth are suffering and her appetite for the day is also less.
Why I give her cereal type thing? because she is a picky eater n its easy to eat it. She takes very less bites of rice, noodles, meat, etc.
Am I giving her less food or why is she behaving like that? Its not like that she is used to milk so she just wanna have it, she really drinks it.
I am having the same issue but my son is only 10 month old. His doctor thinks he is wayyyyyyyyy overweight for his age and that I need to totally cut down on his milk once he is asleep. He cries all night.. doesn't sleep if I dont' give him milk. Doctor suggested that I give him water instead of milk. My son eats solids but not a whole lot.
My doctor says that some babies (like my son) think they are going to get milk each time they cry and its more like a soothing thing for them then actual need. He says babies shouldn't be fed at night. He strongly believes in behavior... babies do what you want them to do. He said breaking a habit takes anywhere from 2-12 weeks and its a misreable time for parents but in the end its all worth it. I am also struggling with what you are going through but I sometimes give him water during the night... just a struggle. I am hoping he is going to totally give up on milk when asleep.
I am in the same boat as you ladies, Jr. won't give up his bottle and hubby can't allow him to be cranky so I am left with no choice but to let him have milk. He is mashAllah well fed, prances around quite a bit so I know he will sleep like a baby but he needs his milk coz it soothes him.
If you guys are successful with getting your kids off the bottle pls share with me I would love to try that. Right now he drinks about 4-6 bottles of milk during the day. It is his go to thing for when he is bored, ready to sleep or is watching some TV. :(
for this, his paed said if i keep giving him milk, he's going to have the expectation that crying = milk = comfort. he was mostly waking up many times at 4-5 months and based on his weight, his paed said he should be able to go longer without drinking milk. she said to give him a pacifier when he wakes up crying. it honestly only two two nights before he clued in and stopped fussing for milk. i think what they need is the comfort of sucking and if they haven't yet figured out they can suck their thumbs, the paci should do the trick. AH he is 7 months now and doesn't wake up during the night any longer.
I am sure she is hungry as she can say dhoodhoo (very loudly in the middle of the night) and previously she used to drink less but now more than before. She never drinks a whole bottle at a time but still i have to get up 2 times. I do give her water too n she drinks lots of that too. Her weight is just ok for her age, so the milk is fine but i want her to sleep through out the night
mm my 25 month old does this dudu cries at night when she's coming down with a cold and hasnt been eating well. even on regular days, dinner is a marathon meal - usually takes over an hour from start to finish - else she wakes up either too early or within hours of bedtime. -__-

few weeks ago jokingly i told het cat took her bottles and she got carried away with the idea. and i hid her bottles. she cried few nights and now she tells me she is grown up and doesnt need bottles. she sleeps whole night and nappies have reduced and she asks for food.
its hard and i couldnt imagine doing it bt im glad i did. life is easier.
those with kids under 2 i think should wait as they might just stop drinking milk.

Roshni how old was your daughter when she quit her bottle?
Ok, after having two kids before having my youngest i would have thought
i would be an expert.. but you only really remember its hard work when you go through it
My youngest is 17 months old and like eating everything and has reduced his milk bottles quite alot and would really
only have one bottle now and even that he leaves unfinished. I have tried giving him milk in a cup but he doesn’t like
taking it in his normal water beaker cup
I am at the moment mostly fed up with him not sleeping in his own bed thanks to hubby dearest
I had him in his own bedroom at 7 months sleeping through the night but he then suddenly started
waking up at night ( think his teeth were coming through ) and hubby just started bringing him into our room
and since then he has become a permanent guest
I really don’t know what to do as i have tried everything from fill his tidd up in the evening to giving soothing bubblebaths
and know that we HAVE to try the putting back into cot thing am dreading in trying the super nanny technique and know we are in for a very bad screaming
couple of weeks and dont know if my ears and my neighbours can stand it

One day a bit of that fell into my son's freshly washed wet bottle. it totally gross and i told him it had worms in it. So we got rid of all his bottles. The next 4 nights were terrible. I had to hold him, rock him, pat him.. i had to stay up all night with him, but it was just 4 nights. :)

sometimes I think its ok if she is having milk at night as she isn't a very healthy baby but i think this is the only solution what was your son's age at that time? in winter's long nights we also get hungry what about kids?
My instinct says that the bottles/milk are for comfort and she's asking out of habit. Just because she's asking for doodoo doesn't mean she's hungry. It's just the only way for her to express the desire for that comfort. She does it because that's what she's always done.
If she's had a nice big and filling dinner plus milk at bedtime, I would not give in to the middle of the night bottles of milk.
ok i am going to try it with her, with the pacifier it was very easy even tough i felt she will create so much fuss but Alhumdulillah she left the pacifier easily so hope with the bottle too she will not give me tough time. the only concern that i have is she is petite and i sometimes think no problem if she is having some milk at night but i am definitely going to try it. So at wht age v should avoid giving milk 2 babies during night? My baby is 1 year she takes 1 bottle before sleep n thn 1 at 6 in the morning she total takes 4 bottles in 24 hrs 2 during day n 2 during night n 3 times solid is this ok?
Mano my son was 2 months short of 3 but I wish I'd done it earlier with him. The earlier the easier. And I won't worry about the intake of milk, she will make up for it during the day. My son started eating better once the milk intake was reduced.

If she isn't waking up during the night, I won't take away her feedings yet. 6 in the morning is her breakfast :)
So what are the options for heavy dinner for 2-3 years old that can keep their stomachs full for long winter nights?
Keep in mind my daughter doesn't take day nap so her night sleep is between 11-12 hours so long long night.
