Great generalization again. Our society is not made up of just Defense Societies or Model Towns, there are some middle class or lower middle class mohallas where the status does not play that big a role.

in our materialistic society giving money can cause problems.
ilm aisi daulat hai jissay koi naheen churra sakta..so for eidi I inform/educate people, sometimes its stuff that may look like useless trivia but who knows when and how that ilm can be useful..yeah?
ilm for eidi..i may even start a full movement for this cause

How is this for a potential calculation:
Total Eidee = 10% of Monthly Salary Gross of breadwinner
33.3% of which goes to own children, and other children receive Eidee in accordance with the following rule:
(66.7% of Total Eidee)/n ; where 'n' is equal to the total number of Eidee recipients.
So assuming person x makes $5000 per month or Rs 30,000 (gross)
Then 10% of this is $500 or Rs 3000
From this $166.50 or Rs 1000 goes to own children, this should be split into numbers of children.
That leaves $333.50 or Rs 2000 for other children again split for number of chldren.
This is if both people are working, but ediee only taken from higher income of the two or more in a household.
If only one person is working then total eidee is 5% of net salary of sole earner.

A further split can be done also, from the amount portioned for other children. Each non-relative child gets 75% of the amount each niece or nephew gets.
So let's assume someone in a family is the sole earner s/he gets £2500 net;
They have 2 of their own kids, 3 cousins of their kids and 5 non-relative children
Own kids will get = (5% x 33.3% / 2) x £2500 = approx £20 each
Relative kids will get = (5% x 66.7%) / (3 + (0.75 x 5)) = £12.5 round up to £15 each
Other kids will get = 75% x £12.5 = £9.375 round up to £10 each
In the case of both in a couple earning ... then approx multiply all above by 2.25 for UK
so makes around £45 each for own kids, £25 for relative kids, £15 to £20 for non-relative kids

i disagree with the 5pound part coz aj kal no-one settles for five so no-one gives it either, minimal is 10pounds n 20 for older kids
sadly we didnt have any relatives around us it was only us so watever we got was fm the parents, but it was more than enough

Hmm, we have lots of kids to give eidee to so the younger ones do settle for £5 and are overjoyed with it too! Thing is they get quite a few lots of 5's so it adds up. Also their parents don't like it if u give more cos they dont want their kids to get spoilt... however, we had a kanjoos relative over for Eid one day, rich man, and he happened to b near by at eidee giving time, so we steered one of the lads over to demand his eidee from him, the stingy man made some excuse that he doesnt have change, we said its ok, give him that, but he said he would give some later when he had change, but he never did. We didnt really expect him to give anything but we wanted to measure the extent of his kanjoosity.
This formula can be implemented by a Ph.D in Maths.
