Re: How much does Pakistan have to win by?
^^ Pretty much says the same thing I said, though I had to create my own spreadsheet to reach the conclusion. 25 runs is the key.

AIR BABA ONE your first post was correct. We need to beat Netherleands by about 25 runs, not 60. This how it works: we only need our net run rate to be better than Netherlands to get the second position in the group (and hence qualify for the next round). A win against Netherlands will drop their run rate and at the same time increase Pakistan's run rate. Hence the two run rates meet half way: Netherlands' drops by about half the difference and Pakistan's increases by about half. The result is that a win by 25 runs will Pakistan give enough gain to eke past Netherlands.
So good news. Winning by 25 runs is certainly a lot easier than by 50 or 60 runs. I don't think Pakistan's hopes are extinguished yet. :)
Makes sense. If it was 50 runs we could say Good Bye already, but since we don't need to beat England's RR, a 25 run margin is required. Let's hope that can be done.
Re: How much does Pakistan have to win by?
In all honesty we dont deserve to go to the next round. What for? More torture, I would rather lose to Netherlands and head home.
Re: How much does Pakistan have to win by?
Actually,,,,, I wasn't so downhearted by the loss,, but the comments of Mr. Younis has literally killed the motion....... a pathetic looser comments for sure..

My sentiments exactly. Forget the likes of South Africa and India, the present team would struggle against Australia, WI, SLA and even NZ
Re: How much does Pakistan have to win by?
At least there's some hope, if it's 25 runs not 60. Is cricinfo columnist that retarded?

They may become cornered tigers and go on to win the competion just like they did in the 1992 World Cup.
Yes, but I do agree the zinda qoom doesn't need more torture, heartache, pain..........

That 1992 team had potential and talent too....great players of the calibre of Imran, Miandad and Akram
This team is just no match for them. These guys are way below par...

Well, you will be sorely disappointed when Pakistan beats Holland tomorrow.

They have got the same coach as 1992; whose innovative coaching methods must have been one of the factors in the 1992 World Cup victory.

How can you forget the even more talented Malik and Ijaz..
Well jokes aside,, you are right,, the team was talented and had the right spirit....
Aaqib,Inzi,Mushtaq, Imran, Miandad,Akram. All were greats of their time.. Just imagine, what would Waqar Younis inclusion would have done to the side..
Re: How much does Pakistan have to win by?
This team doesnt even come close to that 1992 WC winning team. Unfortunately, I dont have too much hope against Holland. They really need a different team to come out tomorrow if they are to win to improve their NRR against Holland. Captaincy is also very questionable. Yesterday, why did Shoaib Malik bowl ahead of Afridi & Saeed Ajmal? And 3 overs on the trot from yasir arafat when he was going for runs and looked toothless.
Re: How much does Pakistan have to win by?
If Younis thinks this tournament is just a joke he needs to stay home! I thought he would be smarter than a fifth grader!
