your first post was correct. We need to beat Netherleands by about 25 runs, not 60. This how it works: we only need our net run rate to be better than Netherlands to get the second position in the group (and hence qualify for the next round). A win against Netherlands will drop their run rate and at the same time increase Pakistan’s run rate. Hence the two run rates meet half way: Netherlands’ drops by about half the difference and Pakistan’s increases by about half. The result is that a win by 25 runs will Pakistan give enough gain to eke past Netherlands.
So good news. Winning by 25 runs is certainly a lot easier than by 50 or 60 runs. I don’t think Pakistan’s hopes are extinguished yet. ![]()
